Do you possibly know what exactly cables are needed for get display in a mac pro 2006? I already try with all the different types of dvi but any of they work so now am thinking on trying with the mini display but... is an old 2006 model and I don't really know if it need a specify cable... any idea!???

Hey Joe (Or anyone else who might be able to answer my question) I'm in a situation where i have two monitors, but i recently found that there is only one Hdmi port in my graphics card. I also noticed there is also a dvi port in my graphics card though, is it possible to use one screen with my hdmi port, and another with the dvi port? So Joe, my graphics card has one DVI-I, one HDMI 2.0, and three display port 1.2. I was trying to find out if there is any significant difference in hertz between HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2, or if they are both at 60 hertz. I was thinking about buying a monitor later, since the one I have currently only has one DVI and one VGA output, and wasn't sure if DP or HDMI was the way to go.

hey Joe, Can you help me, I have two external monitors (1920 X 1200 )connected to my laptop, I have one connected from HDMI and the other connected to a USB 3.0 hub (via HDMI to DVI cable). I notice the quality of picture on the USB hub is not as good as the HDMI. Also there is some mouse lag. Do you think its a laptop limitation ? I guess if I had thunderbolt 3.0 both monitors would be razor quick with the mouse and picture perfect ?

So monitors that have storage/audio peripherals (being able to connect headphones/mics & flashdrives) you need to use the DisplayPort interface? I'm having a difficult time really understanding DisplayPort. I'm using DVI-DL on my BenQ monitor for 144hz refreshrate specifically. From my understanding since HDMI 1.3 your able to use 144hz @1080p but I wasn't able to do so. Hmmm.

im happy with good old VGA and s-video and I'll just run the audio to my surround sound via 3.5mm jack to red and white, simplicitly , all my TVs including my 4k TV have VGA ( unfortunetly neither my 4k or 1080p TV have s-video so I assume s-video was retired ).

Actually you can chain monitors with displayport as well. One line can handle 3 screens. Just need a proper card that can handle it, but the interface itself supports the action.

Hey Joe, and any other people who can help, i've been going crazy looking for a 24" 2560x1440 60hz + monitor. I have found 1 singular monitor (a dell) and i don't know how good its colors are. Do you know of any monitors with those specs or places i can find them? Joe, you forgot the most important spec of all: which ones are proprietary and which are open architecture? Back in the day when USB and Firewire were new, Firewire was much faster than USB but USB won out because it was open and Firewire was proprietary. A little ancient history: When IBM first developed the original PC architecture, they never expected it to be anything more than a curiosity, so they made the ISA bus open architecture. Had the ISA bus been proprietary, the computer revolution might not have happened; at best, Apple computers would be around, but they'd be hipster toys and so home computers wouldn't have been as widespread as they are today. Anyway, IBM tried to take back their market share by inventing the MicroChannel bus (which, again, was far superior to ISA) and making it proprietary.
