Some disposable flashlights can handle a battery change. This one was easy.

Thank you for this! After my Aunt died almost 12 years ago, I was removing her things from her car, and I found the yellow Garrity with black grip. I kept a lot of those everyday things of my Aunt's because she was a smart woman and I knew I was going to miss her a lot. I put the flashlight in my toolbox, never used it, but would come across if from time to time, "Oh yeah, Aunt Kathy's flashlight!" and I'd turn it on, and then turn it off and put it back. And then this week, having woken up at 3 am and getting bored, I wanted to sit up in bed and do some writing, but didn't want to turn on a lamp and disturb my puppy dog. In the morning, I got out the flashlight which was still working, and put it next to my bed. The next time I woke up in the wee hours I was so excited to grab the flashlight that I'd so wisely made available...........and, of course, it wouldn't turn on. In the morning, it took all of 15 seconds to conclude that it was disposable because nowhere did it say, "slide back" or "battery compartment". I did discover that I could peel back the grip, but then stopped. Thanks for giving me the courage to go all in!!!

Great video, I'd like this guy as a neighbor. Now I'm off to see if my Garrity comes apart the same way. Thanks.

Very informative video. I have the yellow Garrity w/black grip that recently went out. I’ve had it for years using it sporadically as I have other flashlights & always was curious about dismantling it to see how the battery set up is & if new batteries would be able to be replaced in there. Always liked it as the beam is rather bright. I suppose the bulb could probably be replaced as well. That used to have to very often be done on the old flashlights. Since I guess it was designed to be a throw away, why not try to operate on it. I’m going to forego taking the grip off & see what happens. I’ve seen these still sold on EBay & Amazon but I’m going to try & fix the one I have.

Awesome. Just replaced my batteries and it works. I plan to use Krazy Glue to put the grip back. See if that works well. Appreciate the video.

Thanks for the video… I think mine may have shorted out or the battery burned out…. it came apart and the batteries fell out -- I put it back together with the old batteries and it went on for a brief moment…. then went off… I think the batteries may have been bad… tried to put it back together with new batteries but it didn’t go on…. it was tricky to know where the positives / negatives were supposed to go and line up…. So unfortunately I think my garrity flashlight may be toast…. Tim

I might grab one of these just for the hell of it. I have a blue rayovac LED flashlight and It's missing the screws that hold the case together so I used tape. The problem is the adhesive in the tape breaks down and makes a sticky mess. and rubber bands just break down too. I have this other yellow flashlight that took this 4.5 volt flat battery and the battery ran out so I modded it to take a 4 AAA battery holder on a cord and I replaced the bulb with an LED module replacement and it's bright as hell. I have tons of flashlights of all sized and types. I might get a 3AA flat battery adaptor which has space for 3 AA batteries and then the light will be original.

Your video was very helpful. I have and like this flashlight, too. Unfortunately the wire soldered to the bulb broke when I popped it open so I will try to fix it.

A red wire that was attached to the negative - squiggly connector flew off when I separated the compartment along with this dual silver metal part that I have no idea where it goes. I think the red wire had a soldered section in metal at the top.

use an elastic hair tie to hold it together - solid, works, easy to reopen when a battery change is needed.

Well, it didn’t work for me as I’m not mechanically inclined so the couple of small parts that flew out on the floor once I was able to separate of which I did do slowly-would never be able to figure out where these parts go. It was interesting that there were 3 Duracell double A batteries in there that were clumped w/battery acid at the ends & the connectors were fused w/battery acid as well & one of the connectors with the squiggly end where the minus end would be connected was one of the parts that came off with a red wire attached to it. Also interesting that the batteries were dated 2016 which means the batteries were packed before that so this flashlight I would say lasted for like 10 years intermittently used as I have other flashlights. Hate to see it go but I’ll get identical ones on eBay or Amazon. And you do need to peel the grip off but I only peeled it off half up to the indentation in the middle but it doesn’t matter now.

To buy a new one it's easy, but to open it ant put bateries in is more chalenging, so my option is made. But when I managed to open, all pieces fall apart. How to put them together, in order to work properly, that's my question. Can you help me please ? thanks.

Same thing happened to me. I separated the compartment slowly & was proud of myself that I was successful in that as I’m not good at working on things like this with my hands only 2 have a couple of the pieces fly off & fell to the floor.

I take it back; these aren't 18650, they are a bit smaller but no markings on them that I could after removing them from the battery pack

The battery pack is a standard size, called the MN1203, and the cells inside are called B cells.
