Almost none of this is accurate 😂 but hey the service requirements were pretty much right and it’s great that they are promoting maintenance.

I see a lot of posts about rechargeable fire extinguishers. That's great....what if there is no such "recharge" facility within a reasonable distance?

She just threw away a good rechargeable fire extinguisher . Kidde are the throw away fire extinguishers. Never buy a Kidde Fire extinguisher, spend a little more on a rechargeable one with a metal head.

Can you just take it to a metal recycle place yourself instead of putting in garbage? Will they take it?

If you drill a hole in it to prove it's totally discharged they probably would take it then. But of course only do that if you know what you're doing.

75% of this is not true. Unless your extinguisher has a white face gage, or it said it’s a 1 time use/disposable then you can throw it away. It is more cost effective to refill one at 50% to 60% of the savings of buying a new one. The only thing true in this story is that you must never try to reuse a extinguisher that has been used or try to fill it on your own. 90% of extinguishers will deplete the unused nitrogen in its bottle once the extinguisher has been partially used. It is best to have your extinguisher refilled/recharged as soon as possible.

It's not a good idea to just throw the fire extinguisher away. Take it to a fire extinguisher service center and have it refilled and recharged at a fraction of the cost of a new one or simply let them have it to dispose of properly. Usually at no cost. A fire extinguisher in a dump is not going to catch fire.

Maybe that's good advice for commercial extinguishers but a new household one is only like $10 more than the cost of refilling. It's well worth $10 to NOT have all the hassle involved in getting it refilled.

@@nodak81 on what planet are household extinguishers ten dollars? Any extinguisher that’s 10 dollars probably isn’t suitable for your house..those tiny little ones are for supplemental protection only

Amazes me that people are so cheap and/or lazy. I have a smoke detector, extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector on every floor of my house. Plus an extinguisher in the garage. All of that stuff cost less than $200 total and you don't have to buy it all at once.

The reason you can’t use the fire extinguisher again after you’ve used it once is it’s not reliable the valve is clogged with chemical and all the nitrogen will leak out pretty quickly anywhere from an hour or less to a day or so. Also you don’t need to throw it in the trashcan unless it says disposable most fire extinguishers are refillable and should be serviced recharged and put back into place. That guy knows little to nothing about servicing an extinguisher 🧯. Fire extinguishers need a six year teardown annual inspection if in a commercial setting and last for 12 years total then the cylinder needs to be hydrotested which is pretty cheap if you have a fire extinguisher company in your neighborhood. Shouldn’t cost more than $35
