Personally I don't like it but I recognise that everybody is different and have their own views and values, and it can add spice to a game. As an Englishman I think everybody's national anthem should be respected, including our own, BUT let's not pretend we don't boo other nation's anthems, because we do!

You cannot expect a passionate Scot with a few pints of beer already in him to respect an anthem about the British Monarchy... the Flower of Scotland is about beating back King Edward... and by the same token England fans always boo the Flower of Scotland, especially the parts about pushing back King Edward's army. I remember being at Lansdowne Road for an Ireland vs England "friendly" in 1995 when the England fans decided to do a bit of Feng Shui to the place, ripping out the terrace seats & throw them on Ireland supporters below them. Would have been happy if it was just a booing incident tbh. Agree with Danny, the rivalries have always been there, its nothing to do with social media. If anything its calmed down to just booing, if thats as far as it goes its perfectly acceptable all things considered.

I like Danny, and agree that this has happened for many years, but I don't think he understood Simon's point that we've become a far more disrespectful, angry and intolerant society as a whole, and the fact Simon expects this behaviour is an indictment on our society. Back then people might have booed, and I know it sounds contradictory, but they still had better manners, empathy, less selfishness and generally a bit more happier... What would happen if alcohol was allowed in matches, and not have the threat of being prosecuted/banned because of the infinitely better security we have today, wasn't around. The Monarchy are disrespectful to the people they rule over. They should of stopped David Cameron putting forward Brexit, they should not turn up to a food bank in Range Rovers and high end fashion outfits for photo ops, they shouldn't getting Mummy to pay off a sexual abused 17yr old girl and then allow him back into the fold. They should of demanded an inquiry into Hillsbrough. I'm glad the Scots booed it last night, because the Monarchy has treated the Scots so badly for generations upon generations. Isn't it interesting how talkSPORT are willing to spend 12 minutes debating whether Scottish fans booing the "English" National Anthem is disrespectful, and only make a passing reference to English fans disrupting a minute's silence for someone who'd died and the victims of a disaster in another country? Jim ends by saying "why can't you just stand in silence?" when the English fans couldn't do exactly that when the clue is literally in the announcement "minute's silence". As others have said, English fans routinely boo other National anthems (not to mention booing their own players for - checks notes - openly opposing racism), and Scottish fans boo other National anthems, but I don't remember Israel getting their knickers in a twist about it. But by all means, let's have a 3-man panel discuss the subject of how Scottish fans should behave without any Scottish representation present (I know I know; "Jim White is Scottish"... but given his track record of opining on Scottish football, counting him as Scottish makes about as much sense as counting your dog's lungworm as one of the family pets. But I find it hard to condemn my compatriots who saw fit to do so given they're booing a song that literally used to have a line about crushing the people of the very country they've turned up to the stadium to support. Compare that to the Scottish anthem which has always had the lines "those days are past now, and in the past they must remain". Even so, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at English fans booing that. My Mother in Law (who is now in her seventies) has refused to sing the UK National Anthem since her school days because the idea that any human being can be born ruler of any other human(s) is not compatible with her ethical values. And trust Simon Jordan to slip his own politics into it. You could probably fit his entire understanding of Scottish politics onto the back of a fag packet, which is why he blames Alex Salmond (who hasn't been relevant for almost a decade) and Nicola Sturgeon (who is no longer First Minister) for being "divisive". They've been divisive in the same way a surgeon removing a tumour is being divisive: It's arguably correct but casts a misleading inference on their motivations. As if the reasons for the Scottish perception of England is generated solely in Scotland. English people will look everywhere for reasons nobody likes them except the flipping mirror. Then when England are playing anyone else, they'll have the audacity to ask why Scots are invariably mostly on the other side.

The English anthem makes reference to "crushing Scots". The Scots have every right to boo that song. It means something very different to countries other than England.

They’re both wrong, it’s nothing to do with atmosphere or the SNP (a ridiculous point as the SNP are very unpopular with football fans up here) We boo it for two reasons: 1. The anthem is anti-scottish 2. The royal family are deeply unpopular in Scotland, particularly among the working class Jim White is 100% aware of the motivation of the Scotland fans booing the anthem, and is making a big story out of nothing for clicks and views, the two English people in the room with him aren’t even that bothered by it, they’re just incorrect in their assumptions.

Personally, I was delighted when I heard the booing. My thoughts were "no worries if Gareth hasn`t got our team fired up enough for this, the Scottish fans have got his back". I`d like everyone we play to do the same please, and thank you for your unintended support Scotland!

Don't like the booing of the National anthem. Really think it's highly inappropriate. If there is an element of protest then stay silent. That would be far better. Scousers booing it is so infuriating for the rest of the country and maybe they should do the same and stay silent during the anthem to register a protest.
