Clearly, Judge Milian hasn't spent enough time in family court. Every time I had to go I left with a migraine. It eats up a whole day, unfair judgments are made, and the only ones who suffer are the kids. Family Court is an epic nightmare.

Why is she grilling the mom? She is doing what she’s supposed to. She went to court. She got an order. HE IS NOT PAYING. You can’t force someone to pay anything they don’t want to (unless the court orders it and garnishes checks). She needs to be grilling HIM.

This case actually made me mad. I didnt like how JM handled it at all. I think the defendant was trying to explain the agreements they made but she kept just cutting her off and reprimanding her but not him. I get it but sheesh

How many times did this young lady have to repeat to JM that she had already gone to court and an order is in place and that the furthest they would backdate any child support was to August?! JM kept preaching that the cable bill and child support were 2 separate things yet grilled and questioned the young lady about it when she should have asked this poor excuse of a man WHY he hadn’t contributed to HIS child. This case was hard to watch 😣

She wasn't being honest about him paying her or helping her financially with their child. She was double talking. He wasn't behind. The court assessed their situation.

What sort of father doesn't support his own son and then when on rare occasions gets him for a day or 2 needs a baby sitter to look after him.

Put them on child support right away if you were never married.

If she's not on any public assistance, chooses to take care of her child on her own there's no need to insert courts in family business. People don't always need courts to sort their affairs.

Definitely get an agreement in court. I had to learn the hard way. Even though the judicial system is a joke on calculating a measly payment to raise a child.

I find it strange that in this society and culture only women are held accountable when it comes to children. Yet, it's the male who actually impregnates the woman, but he shares none of the accountability. That's fascinating to me and guys think they are decent fathers when they pay a pittance in support when the cost to raise a child annually is between $15,000-$20,000. Stop birthing these bastards children. Some don't deserve a lineage. They need to be held MORE accountable and share the responsibility.

Have children The WRONG order would be (1) date (2) have children out of wedlock (3) leave mother and child (4) get married to someone other than the mother of your child(ren); (5) avoid paying proper child support to the mother of your child until the court says you HAVE to do so; (6) sue in small claims court. There are no guarantees in life, but if one is interested in making wise decisions, start with the basics. That's the order, folks.

If you can't afford to pay for cable, use a DVD player. In my poor as crap days with tiny kids, they watched the same Thomas the Train DVD over and over again. I'm not judging needing a distraction so you can make food or heaven forbid use the bathroom (why do they KNOW when you have to go...). But use a dirt cheap option. If you're doing it on your own, you're throwing away your $ with cable.

The defendant thought she was in judge mathis court. She kept throwing up child support that she didn't file for until she was making lesser money and then she said they were paying everything 50 50 before that. Yeah Judge was hard on her because she was trying to come off as a victim to keep from paying the bill she agreed to pay for in exchange for child support. She was right 2 different things.

I like how JM was firm yet gentle with the defendant about the purpose of child support and what she needed to do. Some people honestly don't know or think that they will get more. I used to tell the young men in my life that child support protects them. Establish it through the courts when you are still getting along because when if it gets bad, they will owe for ALL the years not represented through the courts. Some judges consider the direct payment a gift and WILL NOT count it against the arrears. Just do everything above board.

Everyone crying out here, especially women, about child support but this case was not about or before the judge as a child support case. This case was about the plaintiff making a contractional agreement with the defendant to have cable installed in her home which she would be completely & solely responsible for but then reneged on & caused the plaintiff to incur financial distress. The defendant owes the money, period & that was the only issue that was before this court. The defendant filed for child support 2 years after their separation & only because the plaintiff sought to recover his money for the cable installation. Apparently, everything was good prior to this cable issue & so the defendant didn't feel that a court-imposed child support order was necessary which suggests to me that the father was already willingly paying some measure of support for the child.

I don’t understand why everyone is coming after the plaintiff. Even the defendant admitted he has no current violations. She applied for retroactive child support and he is paying it. Why should she skip out on bills and not pay them, which negatively affects his credit.

Ok, first... the judge came down on her as hard as she needed. Someone needs to wake Mom up! Go get your kids money! What are you waiting for? Do you think your kid can wait to eat until you're ready to go get the money from Dad? No, the judge is right. Put your big girl pants on and go get the money. Second, the child support is a separate issue and can't be used in this case, so she didn't want to get into it all, she was just telling the mom that if she's ever in that situation again, you can't wait. Take care of your kids before yourself. Second, while I'm not excusing Dad for not paying until he was forced to (unless that's just her side of the story because we didn't get to hear from him), he's not behind now so he doesn't owe. MORALLY, he needs to be paying, but legally, he doesn't owe because she didn't ask for retroactive pay, so it's only on morals that he should be paying for the time they were separated until he was forced to pay. Who knows how long that was actually for(they say 2 years, but who knows), but morally, he should pay it. Legally, he's not obligated to.
