Creating experiment videos involve hundreds and thousands of dollars put into procuring the requisite chemicals, equipments and labware to make a single video. To say that i will be extremely grateful for your support would be an understatement.
My other RU-vid channel: / @59secsoffunscience71
Facebook: / thomas.tungnung

X: / thomastktung In this video, i describe in detail both theoretical and practical aspects of estimating the dissolved oxygen content of a water sample. I cover in detail the Alsterberg Modified Winkler's (Azide) Method for DO estimation. I also touch briefly on the the Rideal-Stewart Modified Winkler's (Permanganate) Method.

For this experiment this video is the best one on youtube by far. Presentation, mechanism, detailing everything is explained in a very lucid manner. Sir, I just can't thank you enough for how much this video helped me & a lot others. 🙏🙏🙏 (From India)

Sir, you said that manganic hydroxide is formed after the first reaction, but it is manganic oxide in the equation. which one is correct?
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy 4 года назад
The oxide originally formed is directly in contact with aqueous medium , which directly converts it to Hydroxide (oxide + water = Hydroxide)

Thankyou. That was my plan. To do COD and BOD as well. But both these experiments require very expensive equipmemts like COD digestor, BOD incubator etc. So i will not be able to make a video on them as of now. My home laboratory is self funded. Not using some college or university lab 🤷🏽‍♂️

I also wish that final net ionic equation was included. We can do it as well if we just combine the three equations and cancel out the "like" groups.

@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy 3 года назад
U can also use 125ml for small scale experiment. Saves u money.
@durbadalgoswami
@durbadalgoswami 3 года назад
Yup you're right. Borosil laboratory glasswares are a bit costly. In our college we are using 250 mL reagent bottles with glass stopper for the estimation of DO2 experiment. Works fine but I wanted to show the original BOD bottle to the students live.
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy 3 года назад
@@durbadalgoswami when u used 250 ml reagent bottles, i hope u adjusted the volume of water sample to be pipetted out along with the volume of the reagents to be used accordingly. Otherwise it wud be wrong. Of course, for namesake practical classes, where the main aim is just to give the students an idea of how the process goes, any bottle wont be a problem. But BOD bottles are specially designed with special features for DO and BOD estimation, as i've briefly explained in the video. 300ml is the standard volume. 125ml is the small scale lab volume. Quantities of reagents and samples taken to be adjusted accordingly depending on which bottle capacity taken. If u r in the city, then u have the freedom of choice to buy cheaper alternatives that still does the intended function. U can go for generic borosilicate BOD bottles manufactured by some local brand and sold at much cheaper price than borosil or schott duran etc. Wishing u Good luck 👍🏾
