*This* is what my feed should be, I am very happy with the Gods of the Algorithm today. I'll have to put a router upon the altar as tribute. A *very* interesting listen, amazing work. And the cover art is OUTSTANDING!!

I want to ask a couple of questions: 1. How visual is the story and the experience in your head for this work? Personally the music evokes some rather strong images and it at least seems like you're trying to create a strong sense of place most of all, but I don't know if that's what you're going for mainly. 2. How much did you communicate with your fellow creatives before this? It sounds to me like the making of these pieces was quite intense and in the moment, so it's hard to imagine how the communication and the direction worked.

@@kirsas9413 I am trying to invoke something ancient, because this is all based on an experience where I heard voices from thousands of years ago coming from my toilet - a lotta torment and intense hallucinations of things that came far before me - there’s a sort of narrative where the first sound on the record is something getting dropped in the toilet - then suddenly you’re thrust into this time thousands of years in the past but kinda ambiguous exactly when in time you are, then there’s a process of getting stuck in a huge battle, getting killed and then the spirit getting lost in the underworld where spirits get recycled, eventually being consumed by these forces that bring about the cyclical nature of the world - the spirit reconstituted, appears elsewhere with no knowledge of who or what it was As far as communication, I would set up a basic percussion track and then record the sax/reeds over the top with a few basic melodic ideas but heavily improvised - each solo woodwind track was recorded in a different place, like a bathroom, a stairwell, various underpasses, under a street and in my shower - then I would listen back to these tracks and find moments where certain fragments could be augmented with some other ideas - I would also tell people visual metaphors to inform their playing, like to play drums like a stumbling T. rex or play the upright bass like you’re quickly peeling bark off a tree - there were also a few sessions where I gathered some friends and we ran around a microphone, yelping or moaning like lost ghosts - there was even one session where I gathered a bunch of sticks and we ran around battling and screaming with the sticks like swords - most of the time I would describe an image or a phenomenon and then they would interpret it - I also wrote down little melodies that people would read, like the line at the end of “An Unknown Thing Is Always Around the Corner” - it was a lot of just experimenting how to use things in strange and textural ways, trying to coax more instinctual and raw sounds from traditional instruments like violins or cellos or oboes - I was lucky to have people around me that were just willing to try whatever weird idea popped into my head - so much of the percussion was recorded from the things around me, like railings, metal grates, support beams and signs, bowls, car rotors, pots and pans, etc. a lot of it was me just trying shit and seeing what happened, it was a very reactionary process

Also i dont see what "organic" is supposed to add to the music, cool fact i guess? There's still a lot of editing and mixing to make it sound this good quality wise, ive made music before. You dont lose authenticity by trying to make things sound as clear as possible, unless of course you believe so. But this doesnt sound like it was made in a garage or basement, or out in nature where the wind is constantly blowing, so i put your details in your own hands here on how this got made.
