Distillation is a process of separating the component substances from a liquid mixture by selective evaporation and condensation, because the different boiling points of the different liquids.
We are going to distil a bit of wine in order to obtain ethyl alcohol or ethanol. We pour the wine into a flask and heat it. With a thermometer we control the temperature of the vapors so it is above the boiling point of ethanol (78.2ºC) but not near the boiling point of water (100ºC). The vapors from the flask go to the condenser coil. The coil is surrounden by a cooling circuit with cold water in order to condensate the vapors in the coil. At the end we collect in a glass the product of distillation, in this case the ethanol.
