Good day again friend, just curious what your take is on using high end activated charcoal filtered water such as Berkey for CPAP, I'm guessing your answer is don't do it but I'm curious your take on why not. Maybe you can do a video on this?
@ropro9817

Dumb/honest question: Is distilled water really required for CPAP machines? I was told that Brita filtered tap water was fine. Is the distilled water for health reasons or for equipment longevity reasons? Or both? 🤔
@Boodieman72
@Boodieman72 7 месяцев назад
It does not draw out minerals from your body, the minerals come from the food not the water.
@jamesmckay4573

One little correction is that the charcoal filters are only to add flavor to the water for drinking. The distillation is what purifies the water . For CPAPA/BOPAP the filters are not really needed.
@Resist4
@Resist4 Год назад
That's not entirely true. The charcoal filter does not add flavor, it is used to remove contaminates that make it through the distilling process.

Good tips. I put one teaspoon of Citric Acid in the water that I am distilling, it will not hurt you, I can get 3 gallons before adding more and cleaning. Drink distilled water and take vitamins and minerals if needed. As you said, use a timer or you will burn the bottom of the pot.
@john99776
@john99776 Год назад
Good one, Nick. I've been using one of these for years, with a timer. I put some of the citric acid in a spray bottle of water and give the vessel a couple of sprays after emptying the residue, then give the inside a quick wipe before re-filling. I recommend a glass carafe that you can also get for these. These work fine but they're a tiny bit annoying with their fan, so I used to keep mine in my attached garage. Now I have a Water Lovers distiller - made there in AUS I think. Nice on the kitchen counter and easy to use, but a bit more pricey.

I think those jugs in the last video were pretty hot but I had nightmares lol!!! I can't unsee it lol!! I'm an ex military guy so jugs were mandatory reading material on deployments lol! As far as distilled water goes, I use sink water and wash out my water tank with vinegar once a week and it does fine. Just like you said in this vid, I have never ran out of water. I always have 1/4 left in the tank and I empty it every morning when I wake up and let the water tank air dry for the day. Never had any issues but only have been a CPAP guy since Jan.

Nice follow up Uncle Nico, happy to help, you and your followers have helped me so much in the last 12 months and SleepHq is great👍 p.s. the jug is made from branched polycarbonate the same stuff they use in the big water bottles for water fountains. On the Bisphenol A front for sure not as good as glass. Wash the plastic jug with lukewarm water only and no bleach based cleaning agents, washing up liquid works well.

Used my Vevor distiller for the first time yesterday, my objective is to keep my sinuses as clear as possible. Using cpap has made me realize just how often my sinuses are congested, also I put up with some rainout to reduce my sinus problems. The information in your CPAP reviews has helped me make the most of my sleep therapy.

I had a distiller similar to that one but the water always seemed to have a funny taste, and running cleaning cycles never got rid of it. But that bottom crud is easy to clean out with vinegar, you don't need a timer. My biggest issue with the distiller is that it took a lot of electricity to run and it took 5 to 6 hours. I've since started using a Zerowater pitcher, it consistently shows zero TDS after the water is filtered. Yes, the filters are a bit expensive and you can go through them quickly if you have really hard water but, for me it's much more convenient to get water for my CPAP machine in minutes instead of hours. That statement about drinking distilled water long term will draw (leach), out minerals from your body is not completely true. Minerals should be consumed from food, not water. If you only rely on water to get your minerals then you are not eating a healthy diet, it's that simple.
@mikej2133

From what I gather, you can drink distilled water regularly for its benefits and you can add the minerals you need back in. The point is that not all minerals are equal and excess calcium ain't a good thing (eg. clogging up our arteries). We can add just the minerals that are good for us. The other aspect to this is that we get most of our minerals from food anyway. Just make sure, as always, that we are eating healthy real food.

One odd thing: some coffee makers actually won't work with distilled water. Apparently they have a low-water switch that only responds to water with minerals. I learned this the hard way, after returning a coffee maker that I thought was defective.

I have one of these, the water always smells burnt. It does remove a lot of solid's which is exactly what I needed for and sterilizes the water. The carbon filters I understand are for the smell, but in theory there shouldn't be much smell...So I'm a bit perplexed still.

Dude, how much does that “Jug” cost? What about the device cost itself? How much money did it cost for running it for one bottle? How much time did you spend on cleaning the metal pot? Combine all that time and money and divide by .99 cents Canadian = that’s how many bottles of distilled water I can get from Walmart. That’s going to last for my CPAP machine for more than a year. Is it really worth it?

Considering that natural gas is still cheaper if you must then there are many many other economical options out there.

I use it after boiling it in the kettle. Ie cooled water from the kettle. Does not get rid of scale buildup but gets rid of chlorine and other potential volatile chemicals. Putting the water through a Brita carbon filter before boiling will greatly reduce scale build up. In kettle as well as CPAP. Depends on the machine. The tub on my S9 is fairly indestructible. I used it on straight tap water for about 12 months but cleaning the scale got tedious.
