So many of the questions Curt's students send him are about really distributional hands, "What should I bid?! How can we deal with this?! We don't know what to do!!!"
Maryellen joins Curt to play through a wild random hand that Curt played recently.
Partner passes and our RHO opens 1♠. We overcall 2♣, our LHO bids 2♦ and then opener raises diamonds to 3♦. Should we bid our clubs again? Or bid our hearts? Or.... pass?

So what would double mean on the second round? I can't see how it could be penalties.

I would pass, P did't bid, & don't. know the vulnerability. NV /V , I may bid 4C. AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEDIO, I was surprised at 3H bid by Curtis. Makes sense!

Six clubs would be a good sac over 5D. 300 vs 400.

The hand is very strong - it has only 4 losers! Only 14 HCP, but very strong shape - bid 3H!

With a 4 loser count, I would force my P to bid by changing suits to 3!h. P will know I have 4 !h (I didn't use Michaels) and that I have a long suit and a powerful hand. There's also a reasonable chance that P has some of their !ds.

South has only 4 losers - another reason to bid the hearts. Repeating the club suit tells partner that's all you have

Very informative , particularly bidding 3H, however not a mention of losers? The hand had 4 losers and I’d have thought regardless of partners strength that alone would be sufficient to bid further. Disasters do occur but in general with such a long suit what’s our concern. If partner is weak (as was) what our concern in competing? I would have bid over their 3d, and as we saw the have 5d! I’m sorry but I really don’t see the concern about bidding without support from partner?

Assume opponents bid 5 Diamonds over 5 Clubs; On this layout 6 clubs is a good sacrifice but I don’t think it’s biddable - maybe at favourable vulnerability. Any thoughts?

Yes. Use the double for takeout to see what partner responds as their best suit and go from there.

I would have bid 3 Clubs over East's 1 Spade opening. That would have made it more awkward for West. Furthermore if North passes again, then south will not bid again
