I don't know how you keep uploading videos that pertain to exactly what I need to do on my 5.2 ZJ but I appreciate you! I was walking through the tool store listening to one of your videos so I make sure to buy what sizes and tools i need! LOL thank you.
These are phenomenal videos. I just bought a '96 GCL with the 5.2l and 58K miles. I may be some miles before I need to get my hands too dirty, but your videos will be an invaluable resource. Thanks for all your work and I trust much goodness for you and yours.
Getting my brothers beater truck this weekend with the 5.2l Magnum. Been watching a lot of your videos lately to get ready for the work it needs. Great videos. Thanks, man.
While you have your distributor cap off, inspect the oil pressure sending unit. You can see it on the left of the rotor in 02:59. Its attached by two wires.
Just got a 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo 5.2 liter with 116000 original miles...happy I found your channel as they are very thorough and well done. I do my own work on my 2016 Rubicon jku and this is my new fun project vehicle. Looking forward to finding more of your treasures
I really like this video. Great job. I change me plugs in 10 degree weather wind chill well below zero. I popped off the contact on one of the wires. I guess I will replace all.
Hi as usual your vids help a lot. Just did this fix, but I got the wires mixed up to the cap. Strangely I was driving for a while no issues. One day I changed the TPS and she started running rough really bad. So, took off throttle body, cleaned it. Still same thing. MAP sensor came, changed that, no bueno. So I did the front rotors and pads following your vid, great job by the way, then went to do break in. Well she jerked, bucked and back fired. Then shut off. Made it to mechanics and that's when they said wires were crossed.
I've watched a lot of your videos. You've kept my ZJ on the road but on this last project I had to go it alone. Recently had to change out my rotted out brake lines and I noticed you haven't done a video on brake lines yet. I put in pre-bent stainless steel lines and it worked out great. You can find the full kit (front to back) on ebay for about $225. Thanks again for all the tips. Now I'm heading out to get my coil pack, distributor cap and rotor.
@@barricadegarage5361 These are the ones I got. www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-Brake-Line-Kit-Stainless-Steel/223318438318?fits=Year%3A1998%7CModel%3AGrand+Cherokee%7CMake%3AJeep&hash=item33fed0f1ae:g:p68AAOSwT5RdF6ZB
Should anyone not know how to find where plug one position if case of a mix up. With the plugs pulled one can turn the engine to TDC and it will generally be pointing to plug one, and the firing order will always be on the intake manifold on an engine. If and when Barricade does a distributor replacement this will be important in the removal and install process. I'd love to install a highway camshaft, but then it would require me to have the ECM reprogrammed to take advantage of it as the default can't use it. But once one starts down that path, it'll be a full rebuild|build. I've been working on a '89 XJ build and I really should be recording the project. Outside of Bleep'n, these are the best maintenance video's to date. Great job once again and thank you. :D
I have a 93 with the 4.0 motor...I like the vids even tho it doesn't help me with my motor...but the rest of the vids are very informative...keep on keeping on!
Great video....cheers from California...I ain't scared of it no more...My first 318 was 1967 dodge a100 van.....the more things change the more they stay the same
Those original screws for the coil make it difficult to take off & put back on b/c of the tight space, so I changed it to bolt head screw which makes it a lot easier.
Your recent video on your iacv with the phillips screws brought me here.. Phillips heads were definitely stock from the factory on the coil... I had to grind mine off on both 98s I've had. Phillips heads have no damn business in an engine bay on a part like that.. Like putting torx headed bolts on suspension parts..
My MSD coil didn't really do anything but chew up my cap and rotor REAL quick.. The MSD wires I had were longer than oem and they arced on everything they touched and caused major pinging from crossfiring on the other wires. Junk.. I currently have 7/16 heater hose covering all the junk wires so the engine doesn't destroy itself. Mopar from now on..
96 CJ GREAT descriptive video. I especially appreciate the detail you provide. Your CJ is clearly loved . :) ** a tip . another channel pulled the plugs and number them in order. This will provide you individual firing info to each cillender. SUBSRIBED
Nice job and very detailed description on how to 👍 If go online you can get these spark plug wire looms and number rings so everything stays the way you want it. How's the MSD coil Vs stock? I change mine with OE part and it runs great .
Why you got your AC bypassed? Perhaps that fix could be a future video. When I picked up my 94ZJ4.0 the previous owner told me the AC hadn’t worked in a few years. After replacing the fuze and topping it with cold juice I had ice cold air.
Good fucking video. All the fucking other ones that people put out are just blah blah blah and how they have 35 years of ASE Certified Mechanic Experience rather than getting to the point. Thank you.
So i dont understand why this distributor has a pick up coil inside of it and an external coil by the battery .. The external coil by the battery sends power to the distributor which then sends signal to the spark plugs .. why is there another coil inside of it ?
I'll see how it runs when I pick her up today but my question is, I hear some people report similar issues and the PCM was the problem. Mine is a 94 zj 5.2. Have you ever changed your PCM? Would a vid on replacing be ok to ask. Know you're busy. Thanks again for your vids bro seriously they help A LOT.
I may be wrong but the pcm doesn’t control individual cylinders on a truck with a distributor. All it controls is whether or not the distributor gets spark
Your video have been very helpful. I did my tune up recently on my 96 5.2, but once i put it on drive and try to hit the gas it idle rough and misfire. went back make sure all the spark plugs are gap right. My wires are 7mm would that cause the problem. My rotor and cap are mopar
By the way. Got that M18, sweet impact. I got mid torque though. Does a bigger battery mean more power. It was no match for them 3 wheel hub nuts. Got the axle nut off no biggie, after that the STRUGGLE began.
I have the high torque and have no problems but I think that mid torque is rated around 600ft lbs reverse torque. You should be ok with the 5.0 battery
@@barricadegarage5361 Ok cool, that's next on my agenda. It came with the 2.0. Imma see how she rides but they can't obd 96 and earlier so they're stumped at the mechanics. Maybe I'll try replacing the fuel injectors following your vid. Thanks for hittin me back.
Wow Mopar everything, that’s doin it right! Hey I’m curious, what year and how many miles you got on your ZJ? Mines a 97 with 230,000 but still running good.
Have you ever had a problem with the intake manifold plenum gasket on the bottom side of the intake manifold leaking on any of your magnum 5.2 or 5.9 engines? And if so. Have you ever made any videos about it? We have a problem with a 5.2 that runs rough below 2500 rpm and I believe that the plenum gasket may have a vacuum leak.
Hey man, you seem to know quite a bit about these mopars. So I have a question for you. I have a 97 zj limited 5.2, I have a random miss fire under load. So far I have replaced the following parts; Battery, CPS, Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires, Fuel pump. A little bit of background to help aid in possible diagnosis, I bought this jeep for 300 after sitting for 2.5 year previous owner thought the fuel pump was out. Turns out he had the exhaust redone and who ever did it cut the rear O2 out and left it, which cause it to land on the drive line and eat through the wire coating grounding it and blowing the auto shut down. After I repaired that to give myself time to wait to have the exhaust redone again this problem has risen. My thought is either a faulty pickup or map. What do you think? Also where did you get those valve covers????? I have got to have a set for my 93!
Hi there, I have a Question about my Jeep. 97 Grand Cherokee V8. When I run the AC she tends to run a little hot. I followed your steps on the video on tune-ups and have done the tune up minus the water pump and fan clutch. Should I replace the fan clutch and water pump to keep the Jeep cooler when the AC is running ? Also, I believe my thermostat is a 195 degree thermostat. Thank you for your help ! Jamal
8.5 and heres the link to where I got mine from www.ebay.com/itm/MAXX-529B-8-5mm-Performance-Spark-Plug-Wires-92-98-Dodge-Jeep-Mopar-5-2L-5-9L-V8-/201059921100
So when you were getting ready to remove your old distributor cap did you have to unhook and set aside anything else to get better access to it? For example, my power steering dipstick (if I remember correctly) is blocking the distributor cap on my 93’ Grand Cherokee so I’m having trouble figuring out how I’m going to get it out and the new one in? Any advice?
