'Disturbing' rental listing raises concerns in Windsor, Ont. 

Letting in 1.5 million immigrants in a year without increasing housing and rental builds is a amature mistake. Causing a lot of pain and suffering to domestic markets

Stop letting students in if there isn’t enough housing. The school should be building residences then. It shouldn’t be everyone else’s responsibility to help the school make money.

"I think what we should call this is an exploitation of the housing crisis" he says as if the housing crisis isn't exploitation already.

I know some international students. These types of listings are common and have been for years. In fact, this isn't even the worst I've seen.

What a nation we have become !!

I have a client from India and he said students want to live like this to save money. He originally wanted to migrate to Germany first but got denied because he didn’t have 60000 in the bank and Canada only requires 3000, 7 years ago. He was telling me Students come to Canada to go to school, they drop out after 3-4 months and go to work and save money. They send most of their money home to India and live like this so they can do that. Once they have established themselves they apply to get into the USA where they do the exact same thing. So they can earn enough money in North America save it, send it home and move back home to India after 10-12 years where they can buy land. This is happening with 1000’s of students each year.

So, the larger question is Why is our Canadian government allowing Universities, foreign investors and national corporations to control the Canadian market place to the detriment of basic Human Rights: Housing and food? It’s embarrassing that Universities can’t ensure proper housing for its students. It’s criminal that foreign investors and corporations are exploiting food and housing for their personal profit at the expense of human lives in Canada. If Government officials can’t fix this problem then speak up and the public can and will help. Foreign investors i.e. foreign governments are destroying Canada.

Then why do we have so many international students if there’s a housing crisis??

So the solution is to boot them to the street? Where are they gonna go?

Canada should halt international students and immigration for a while until everything is arranged. The US doesn't want immigrants, and Europe doesn't want immigrants they are dumping all of these burdens on us, they must leave.

Honestly, I have been tempted to rent my living room out here in Moncton.. Costs are out of control

I had someone complaining about the wait times in Hospitals and no doctors available to take new patients . they should stop the influx of new immigrants . we have to get our own problems straightened out first. like getting rid of Justin .

This is been going on in Canada, for years why all of a sudden a surprise.

The problem is foreign interest and hedge fund groups being allowed to buy..pay no taxes here on the money made on the properties and rent for ridiculous prices..our housing markets shouldnt be an investment opportunity for foreign interest period. Thats why we got this situation.

This councilor is completely disconnected from reality. The foreign students are purposely grouping together to lower costs for themselves, sometimes without the knowledge of the landlord. At least this guy is being upfront as to what they'll be getting for their money. What would he prefer, that they don't do it? Cool, then expect higher demand and higher prices for other units typically occupied by non-foreign students.

1.2 new immigrants, 900,000 international students and 700,000 undocumented per year. I'm afraid that this is only the beginning.

I live in Australia and I have seen worse that this rental listing......There was a listing that got on our news because they were advertising a room to rent in a major sitting and someone had just put up a cheap tent in there back courtyard and put two stretcher beds in it ans were trying to rent it out.

There are many 😮 many like these in Toronto . Govt officials are sleeping 💤 i also heard from my friend and it’s in Toronto down town . But he says it’s legal -

Tenant safety? This should be about standard of living.

This is why rentals have a less than 1% vacancy rate. They'll have 8 "international students" (we all know which country they come from) stacked like sardines in a 1 bedroom apartment. Obviously the landlord can get more monwy from multiple people chipping in for rent than from just one guy, so they'll tell the one guy to take a hike in favor of lining his pockets that extra couple hundred per month. Then since the "international students" are paying so little, they'll go in cahoots with the landlords so next time a vacancy comes up, the landlord will rent to other "international students" (aka friends and family of the other tenants) rather than canadians and make a killing. Landlords or rental agencies don't care where or who the money comes from.

When i moved from my college rental 2 men from Japan were moving in and they only had clothes and a sleeping bag. I gave one my futon mattress. That was 10 years ago. Of course they had proper bedrooms but no furniture At least this rental offers a bed. Its not ideal but safer than the streets.

What do you expect? I find this inspirational and the best solution for my financial issues. I’m putting 12 bunk beds in my basement immediately and only charging $500 a month

New York City and some European countries are stepping in and banning Air B&B and short term rentals or putting very stringent regulations to curb housing issues.. Housing is Provincial, and I don't see any Premier stepping up and doing anything about it.

The Landlord is providing an affordable solution to an expensive problem. Its a free market, and absolutely paying 330/month to essentially live in a hostel is better then living on the street because you cant afford 2k for a 1 bdrm

Problem with affordable housing is one, the tenant landlord bord. No one in his right mind will rent property when he knows that if his rights are being violated no one will.protect him. This is why pricing is crazy and credit checks are done! Only this reason!!!!

Look up the 1920's, you will see a lot of similarities between then and now. They were not calling theses years the crazy 20's for nothing.

I reported a water leak that caused 100 year old plaster(they used asbestos in that a hundred years ago, did until the 1970's in some cases) from my ceiling to begin deteriorating. The city response was, "you can hire a private contractor to test the air". With what money? I am also at least three months behind on food payments on my credit card because I had to pay for private health care, thanks to the privatization of our health care system. Tenant safety, test my air, I've probably had Mesothelioma growing for 6 months or more now.

"It's about tenet safety." No it isn't, it's about preventing solutions like this from lowering rent prices. Where else can you get rent for under $400. The people renting can see those pictures and make an informed choice about whether the price is worth it or not. Something should be done only if the landlord is deceiving or withholding key information.

this is a shame that it takes this kind of story to show the light on the issue of international students and how its affecting the housing market, young canadians have been saying it for years thats its affecting them and now were seeing them in more and more cramped locations below our standard of living while paying for it witch is disgusting in my view, but were passing the blame from landlord to muncipality to provincial to federal when the problem is greed

I don't even see the issue in renting such if the people have no other options and would be on the streets otherwise... Find a solution and if not at least allow people to rent a cheap bed where they can remain warm with the upcoming winter. The government rather have you on the street then in a bad rental.

Guelph University has awful living conditions, I’m not talking about the restaurants, but the rooms are overcrowded. Three girls stuffed in a room for one, there isn’t even walls between the beds, no privacy at all.

Was thinking of bunks built with 2x4’s and storage or foot lockers!

Building new Student Housing would be a money maker for investors and builders alike. That type of housing is not not rent controlled. Whenever the student vacates the unit, the owner can easily increase the rent.

How is this bad? This is a marketed related issue. If it's fulfilling a need (or not), the market will respond. People have been renting out rooms in their homes for thousands of years. It's a common practice. The only difference here is that the landlord has divided the room into units.

At least it’s more of a solution compared to whatever Fabio has done. Is this the type of housing we want in Canada? Of course not, but when you don’t built housing or make it too costly and difficult too this is what you get. The issue is not landlords here. They don’t let in 1.5m people and only build 200,000 homes, they aren’t in charge of planning and costly development fees.

This is the same guy - who blocked new housing - when we submit documents to construct the city cited zoning laws and rejected application for new affordable housing
