This is why men need purpose in life. Like them or hate them you cant deny that gangs provide young men with a purpose in life. We need to figure out an alternative route that young men can take (teaching software development in elementary school, financial classes in secondary school, and other programs that will open up new careers for young men). I dont know computer science is a University only program and not an Elementary-Secondary program. Teaching skills like these will open up high paying jobs to students right out of secondary school and because of this the allure of money in gangs will be lessened. There isnt a magic formula to give men purpose, but investing in them is a good place to start.
Yeah it's for a sense of "community" and belonging lots of them say also if you live in a neighborhood like that you are automatically a target so they join a gang for protection knowing the cops don't do their jobs properly half the time and won't help them. Cops expect people to be rats which will get them killed too.

You seem to miss that a lot of classic rock bands from the 60's-70's and 80's hair metal bands did a lot of drugs, slept around with countless women (some of whom were underage) and did a lot of things that would be called....stupid.
This is why we need to bring real jobs into these communities. Canada doesn’t bring real jobs that pay enough to support your family in many of these underserved communities, and they damn sure ain’t quick to hire people from them. These young men get tired of seeing their families go hungry, as when you grow up in public housing you often have to choose between having power in your home or having food on your table. It’s much easier in these communities to find a gang to join and some crack to sell then it is to find a good job that pays enough to support your family when you grow up in public housing, as the drug game is a multi billion dollar industry, providing these young men what looks to be a way out of poverty and hunger, but then it traps them, as you can only dodge the cops for so long, which is when these young men spend most of their lives in prison after they get caught which is another multi billion dollar industry. I know this because I’ve been where they’re at, which is how I ended up in prison with my father. The realest thing my dad told me when we were locked up together was “don’t repeat my mistakes” as that’s exactly what I was doing. After spending most of his life in prison after getting caught with a gun that the cops traced to a murder, my dad is now in his early 60s, and was just a weak old man with regrets when I finally caught up with him. And his light was gone. That made me swear to God that would never be me, as I’m going to break that cycle for my kids, which is exactly what I’m doing now that I’m a free man. I make sure my kids never go hungry and never have to go through what I had to go through when I was their age to make sure they don’t fall into the trap the drug game creates for these vulnerable young men that grow up in public housing

Education is the key, it has to be. Because it worked for me. I was raised in a fanatic Muslim family, however, when I went to university I realized there is NO such thing as God, ghosts, or goblins. Unfortunately, my father died an ignorant man cause I tried to teach him that there is NO such thing and he has been brainwashed by religious dogma.
