onlyoffice is quite a good software imo, but the only thing i'm still waiting to get intergrated into the app is dual page layout just like in ms office, it's a rlly nice feature to have for viewing something rlly long like a book or a novel...perhaps more than that

WPS Office is better tbh. People say OnlyOffice integrate better with Microsoft Office, but no, WPS did it better, it's so good I suspect WPS people may have stole Microsoft Code lmao

Onlyoffice is good but I use FreeOffice (SoftMaker Office) as my main office suite on Linux. It has better word/excel compatibility

FreeOffice is free version of SoftMaker Office with few features only available on SoftMaker Office.

I tried setting up the docker for the word processing part on my NAS so it'd interact with my Nextcloud docker but the whole experience felt so sluggish, I had to remove it again :/ Their desktop and Android suite works great but I'd love to have something unified in my own hands that works across all my devices and let me edit documents and spread sheets from other machines too.

For only office team, please consider that developers need to integrate the UI with our apps, we need the functionality, look and feel with our own backend files hosting, this can also have free/premium model. Thanks

anyone know if theres a portable version of this? i need to run it on an older windows computer at work off of a USB drive if possible..it doesnt have internet access

I'm using Libre and MS Office for years now and my experience show that the rest is so far behind that they don't meet my requirements at all. Libre is close, but still not 100% there. Other Office suites are just a child toys. I tried them all and within the first few minutes it turned out I can't do things I need. I cannot name myself an advance Office suite user, just an intermediate one. If one is working with various sets of data, needs to do different analyses, I can't imagine the other suites would suffice.

Did they solve the word count indicator at the bottom? also the word count not saved to the file metadata, I had to manually open it in LibreOffice just to save it properly. Other then that is an awesome software and I really looking forward to recent improvements!

The two reasons i gave up on using onlyoffice is the lack of offline support for either mendeley or zotero. As a student, that's a dealbreaker as redactional norms in psychology (APA7) are ultra specific. Second is the fact that in the spreadsheet, i couldn't insert nor edit standard error barrs. It's just not advanced enough for my needs.

Isn’t that Mendeleys fault though? Zotero should not be a problem. But I’m pretty sure everyone is turning on Mendeley because of the new ownership and business model.

@@ghost-user559 i tried both, but they only work on the cloud implementation and not on standalone. Problem is the modules don't work quite well, and me as a user who can't wait for a fix will go to where i can use the things relatively safely from crash, no matter who's to blame. Even with that aside, i can't recommend it to academics and research folks....

@@donday6753 Yeah I am actually in the market and at a loss myself for options. I do NOT want cloud or online. I want to write historical nonfiction without consistent internet access. Ironically Apple Pages of all things has excellent Endnote integration. But I want something free and or open source preferably. And I can’t seem to find anything that hasn’t changed since it gained a following. Mendeley was bought out and now everyone is warning against it. Zotero looks decent but without any real integration with any writing applications. Let me know when you find the one. I’ll jump in a heartbeat.

@@ghost-user559 personally, i think of i were to start a phd or had a time machine, i'd learn LaTex. It's a PITA to learn and i don't have time anymore, but if you have one template, you can be sure that everything you write and add is under control. Personally i ended up buying softmaker office. It works well and has zotero, but there are some artefacts when you use docx

Are you saying that it lacks the find and replace option altogether, or that the option itself leaves more to be desired? Because it definitely has it. Just hit ctrl+f.

@@LeonisYT I know find and replace is there :D The problem arises for example in Spreadsheets(excel alternative) if you try to replace cells with certain formatting or with certain string inside of them. It's just lacking in that regard. It might be possible with macros or some kind of plugin extension but it should work out of the box without the extra headbutting.

Does this have full compatibility with ms office docs? I usually run into gotchas with open source alternatives which unfortunately keeps me tethered to windows.

I personally you have never had issues with it opening Microsoft documents. You can install the desktop application on Windows slowly try to make a switch to see if you have any issues.

Thunderbird, Onlyoffice, Nextcloud and Simplenote. I took those from my Linux experience and I use them daily on my Windows computer. Sadly I really have no use for Linux itself. :(

There is one thing that must be said tho'; on their website they are kinda misleading about the compatibility with MS Office as what they show is actually MS Office Online, which is garbage. At the moment the most comprehensive and compatible suite is WPS Office, but that one has the downside of being proprietary, it requires you to make an account with them, and a lot of other fishy stuff.

While I’m not rushing anyone, obviously we want them to do this right, I will say I’m not using onlyoffice until they fix that bug in the dictionary where it mislabels words like would’ve could’ve should’ve as incorrect.

only office does not even have the most basic of features like being able to add your own style in the sheets, meaning we would have to rethink the entire timetable design just to use that crap. Libre office, open office and ms office all have it so thanks but no thanks

I would like it if libra office would tie into such a tool. I would really really like it if such a tool would allow Libra or google office documents to be arranged in projects and folders like ever note or one note. If I won the lottery I would consider paying someone to initiate such a project.

I tried using the Flatpak of onlyoffice to edit my g-drive documents but it just didn't work which was unfortunate. I actually liked using it in replacement to LibreOffice because its guides for powerpoints were more reliable.

The WORST installation experience, ever. Normally, a container does everything itself, on the first run. Here you have to move mountains to make it work. Worst documentation, ever. It takes a PhD to navigate their product line. Ugh.

OnlyOffice is a good alternative to desktop but still has limitations. For example doesn’t support Asian languages write from right to left. Also mobile apps for android and iOS are very…very limited, word and excel on android and iPad is much more advanced and options rich

Wait, so the free self hosted version has a user limit? Sorry, but this is absolutely intolerable imo. I get that they want to make money and i'm totally fine with selling extra features or technical support, but this isn't a feature. this is an artificial limitation that only exist to get you to buy the enterprise version.
