The first four adventures of the 1960s puppet/live action children's series Diver Dan include "Hard Water", "Goldie The Goldfish", "Talking Fish", and "Skippers Gold". The series starred the voices of Allen Swift, with the late Frank D. Freda (1936 - 2016) as Diver Dan and Suzanne Turner as the mermaid Princess Minerva.
Diver Dan was a collaborative production between cartoonist/creator John Ferlaine, producer Martin B. Young (Young Development, Inc) and Louis W. Kellman (Brian Cartoons). I remember watching episodes of Diver Dan on the Ray Rayner show, here in Chicago back in the mid-to-late Sixties---just before heading off to school. LONG time ago...LOL. Thanks for the post----I don't ever recall seeing the very 1st episode. If memory serves, Diver Dan and Miss Minerva never actually met face-to-face during the entire series.

I grew up in the 50's in New Jersey and Diver Dan was a favorite on the Sandy Becker show. What a great memory! I always wanted to be the beautiful Minerva!!

@@rozziec.3197 👍 Sometimes I think to myself, "am I really remembering my past correctly"? And BAM!! Something like this comes along and proves that you WERE young once, and your memory is better than you thought. This was exactly as I remembered it from when I was like 5 or 6 years old! Makes me s little misty. Another obscure one I found was "Colonel Bleep". Bizarre little space cartoon from the same era. You might want to check it out. Cheers!

I've been doing some nostalgic research on things that I'm remembering from my childhood in the 50s and diver Dan was one of them oh much to my freaking delight was I able to find this on RU-vid and now I remember Baron barracuda and Minerva the mermaid take me back take me back

I'm at home with my grandsons watching Spongebob and I was reminded of this show. I was 11 when it first aired so I didnt watch very long. It was interesting for the time. Clutch Cargo, too.

This was about 2 or 3 years before my time BUT I have to say that from a PRODUCTION design viewpoint - you can tell that there were passionate anc CLEVER artistic people behind this . Truly. P.S. That one timid fish is the voice of Felix Flankin from the movie "Mad Monster Party" (1969).

Every episode was a tour de force for Allen Swift -- the incredible voice actor who did every single voice except Minerva's! His talent rivaled that of the great Mel Blanc. I don't believe it's possible to pay any voice actor a higher compliment.

Hello, I have a few more episodes of Diver Dan that I may upload in the near future. "The Magic Door" is a very scarce TV program even though it ran for 20 years. The Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago has at least one episode, but is their 25th anniversary special, and it is not in their online collection. Hopefully footage of this and other early Chicago kids shows will be found by the Museum of Classic Chicago Television, or the Chicago Film Archives.

I remember this show when I was a kid in Ohio where I spent one school year, when I returned to the Rocky Mointain region they didn't have this show, I always remember the diver but never the name of the show.

Diver Dan's adventures were nearly 5 minutes each so they could be easily incorporated by local TV host into their programs. I don't know for sure if Ranger Hal (assuming you mean Ranger Hal of WTOP, Washington, D.C.) was one of them. There was no mention of "Diver Dan" at the kidshow.dcmemories.com in the Ranger Hal section, but that doesn't mean he didn't show them. Also, I haven't found anything on "Diver Dan" and Capt. Kangaroo; but you have me curious.

I think I remember sitting down in front of the TV, watching Uncle Al, Diver Dan, and Captain Kangaroo back to back. So maybe it was included with CK. This was in Cincinnati.

Diver Dan and then Commander Cody and from there, Marvel comics...the world has no idea the utopia it missed, the paradigm it fumbled and instead we got SNL and Sam Smith and Biden.
