Diversity and Inclusion: Wayne State University's "Perspectives" 

This is a Good man.

As a WSU graduate (class of '83), I have for decades told African American teens not to consider WSU. In fact my statement was well-rehearsed, "Don't be fooled by where it is located, Wayne State is a white university and you will not be comfortable in its environment". My advice to them was "go to an HBCU, I wish I had". It has only been since Dr. Wilson became president that my opinion has changed. I have always believed that Wayne is an awesome university, but it takes more than just being great academically for students to succeed. I am encouraged by Dr. Wilson's recognition of the need for inclusion, not just diversity.

I've visited WSU many times the last few years and been impressed with the diversity of both the students and staff. What's interesting is only those in SE Michigan appear to really know about this. I look forward to more outreach programs, such as found with WSU Planetarium, that facilitate continued development of inclusion and diversity at WSU!
