Divesting Decks: Culling my Tarot Deck Collection - inspired by Tom Benjamin! 

I find seeing people down-sizing their collection very inspiring ...because let's face, it it is very easy to add decks to your collection ...but it takes some mindful thinking to decide if there is a point in having so many decks and if they actually serve a purpose or have the value you thought they would!Thank you for sharing,Katey!xx

I just did this with my collection. From 72 to 32. Shew. That was hard!

I’ve been slowly sorting through my tarot and oracle decks over the past few months - not getting very far to be honest. 😂 Just last week I cried while throwing out my super old yoga mat because “it’s been with me through so much! I just want it to know how much it means to me!” As much as it pains me to think about letting go of decks (what if I regret my choices?!), you’ve inspired me. And I REALLY need to declutter because Chris is constantly bumping into stacks of decks everywhere. 😂 I reckon I’m going to give this video a go and film my own. Watching you is emotional! I’m commenting while you’re debating the Ophidia Rosa Tarot... I have lots of feelings 😭 Ah and now The Goddess Oracle! Ooph. Osho Zen! Gaian Tarot MY BABY 😩 Heart of Faery Oracle - I feel the same way. Knowing it’s out of print makes me want to keep it? In case I change my mind (hi, I’m a Libra). Ok, I’ll stop commenting on absolutely everything, ugh, thank you for sharing this with us. I’m one step closer to taking the plunge and sobbing my way through my own sorting process. 💗

OMG you're breaking my heart here! LOL! I'd do anything (well....ok, almost anything) for those decks you "culled". But I get it. That feeling of being boxed in (no pun intended there)... Right now I'm just not ready to let any of mine go.

I've culled my decks before and regretted it. Maybe not right away, but now some are out of print and that I regret as I could have probably sold them on eBay for a profit!

Wow... that was painful and profound. I am new to Tarot and still working on my collection. I am currently at 3. I did find that you have mentioned the Hezicos Tarot in most of your favorite videos and now I am absolutely intent on getting the deck. However; in the search I found it is out of print and I am trying to work with the author to find out what options she has left. So, in the event you decide you do not want it, please let me know - BUT as much as you have talked about it in previous videos - I am so glad you decided to hang on to it. Who knows it may become new again once you revisit the deck.

I want to make sure i never have more than 10 tarot decks at a time so whenever I want a deck for myself I get rid of one by giving it to a friend who connects with it. It feels therapeutic, the decks go to someone I know and trust and I get to move on to a new deck while my old deck gets a new life. It’s not easy but you did great!

Good on you for being able to reduce your collection Katey. I recently got rid of a good 10 or so decks and I’m thinking I could be more ruthless. Today was such a low day for me and watching this video totally brought me some joy! I really liked watching what you had to say about all of the decks you own and your reflections on them. My love of decks ebbs and flows. Sometimes I’m ruthless and cull everything down to a select handful, and the other times I go crazy buying and trading. August always seems to be a month of big acquisition for me. I admire your discipline!

I recently decided to move on 2 decks that I bought before I really knew what I wanted from Tarot or what my style was. Even though I never use them and don't vibe with them, I found it really hard to decide not to keep them, very odd! I really want to try Thoth, I really don't think it's for me because of the detail and business but it really calls to me so...! lol! I enjoyed it, hearing your thought process around them was really interesting. Well done!

I’ve enjoyed watching your videos and am feeling better about having given so many decks away sometime back. Now I’ve renewed my interest, I’ll focus on decks that “speak” to me. Also when you mentioned Savers, a thrift store, I was surprised to learn they are in Australia. I live in western Massachusetts and our Savers helps support the Boys and Girls Club organization. Nice to know Savers is not only in the US but also Canada and Australia.

I went through my collection at the beginning of the year and released over half of my collection. I found it very freeing. I was also a little burnt out on tarot and oracle at the time and that really helped get me out of that. I almost had my hands on a copy of the Heart Of Faery but it was lost in the mail. I was so sad lol. One day I’ll get my hands on it. Great video thanks for sharing. 😺❤️❤️❤️

I've recently gone from 110ish down to 80 (not including a few that I've designated "collector" decks), and I feel accomplished and so much more pleased with my deck library. beginning of next year, I hope to practice a depth year, so I may trim off some deck fat again in January :) great video!!

Just counted my decks. 50 decks with 3 new oracle decks on the way, 1 lenormand and 1 pre order for November of the In Between Tarot. Not ready to part with any at the moment. Fair play to you... space to fill with new decks now lol ... thanks for sharing, I felt your pain... lol

I almost skipped this video being unsure if I'd find it interesting, but I'm so glad I decided to sit down with some cake and watch! It was most interesting for to see what you decided when you showed a deck that I have in my own collection, to hear what you've used it for, how often you've used it and if/why it's time to let it go. Some of the ones you parted with I'd never dream of letting go myself, but It actually made me think about my own copies of the decks from a different perspective. Thanks Katey!

Lovely video, thank you. I have the same issue with the Hezicos. It has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but I am not using it anymore. It still has a special place in my heart. You might need to consider that is OOP now... just in case you decide to let it go... 😉💜

Katey, what an achievement! 20 (24) decks in one go .. wow. I am a slow collector so it usually takes me a long time to acquire a deck unless I preordered which is very rare for me. It’s harder for me to like decks because I always find reasons to not get them .. I am so picky and I wish I am not because sometimes I only like a deck after it goes out of print 😅

I'm glad people realizing that they don't need all the decks in the market in order to be "better" I mean most of the decks in the "collector" hands don't even have use. nice video and nice message. Also love Benjamin such a nice guy.

Just a little note to thank you for passing on the naked heart. It has pride in place next to a few other decks I love and use alot. It sits on a window self next to my bed in the middle of Bohemian Cats Tarot on one side and Tarot Forna and Stolen Child Tarot on the other side💞

Maybe some of those dear decks in the "Uncertain" box can stay when everything else is culled? Gah! I held my breath when you pulled down Dark Days; weirdly, I'm so glad she's staying with you.

It's definitely really hard to do but afterwards, it feels liberating. I started culling decks in mid-2017 throughout 2018. I have added and gotten rid of decks here and there this year but it has been a lot slower for sure. It was motivating to see you and Tom Benjamin go through decks on video. I am trying to make sure all my decks get used and the ones that don't need to be removed from the collection.

So fun. I feel like we have maybe similar-ish sized collections... mine amassed over all the years I've read, and I've never gotten rid of any! I just can't! I've had decks I stopped using then came back to so I'm afraid of that happening... and I don't have any space concern, so just haven't felt the need to. I totally do this with my clothing twice a year though! And it always feels great.

i actually got into tarot because i collect playing cards. im 19, and a trans woman, i always wanted playing cards on vacation and such adn now have a collection of about probably 100 to 120 decks. and now 1 tarot deck with another on the way!

Katey, -It is amazing that you have the strength to purge your Tarot deck collection. I have the Liminal Tarot because I saw your one walk through video of it. I spent a month and a half looking for it. I paid a pretty penny for it. Same goes for the Hezicos. I know you are a grown up and you do not need my unsolicited advice, this is just a comment, but I would not let go of any of the Out of Print decks. I am a Libra, and boy it is hard to really make up my mind. The Osho Zen. That's another deck I got inspired by you. If you find awesome homes for them well. I guess that's your path. Please consider me as a potential adopting mum for your decks. I know you are going to have a tons of your YT followers wanting to buy your decks. I hope I am not being a pain. EDIT: I am glad you kept the Liminal, being sold at 650 USD on a Facebook page Tarot buying and selling decks group, and the Hezicos a beautiful deck sold for 150 UK pounds on Ebay. Some of your decks would be so hard to come by again.

I’m curious as to why you stop using cards? Do you have a video that talks about your relationship with Tarot/Oracle and why you stop using them sometimes? Also, you did a wonderful job!

I've culled my decks a few times. Sometimes it's because my tastes have changed. Other times it's because I find a deck beautiful but I don't enjoy reading with it. I feel like it does a disservice to let them sit in a box unused.

I Carollen am envious of your work in a bookstore you get the best first. I live in usa there are few bookstores Amazon ate them. I love all your books & Tarot cards I have to go 250 miles for a tarot store. I moved from city to extreme country . We have more cows (farms) than people. So everything is Amazon. We did get Walmart (Savers to you) but it does not sell tarot cards or books. There are better Walmart stores 1.5 hrs south. I lost all friends my whole family is gone from earth. So Thank you for sharing books & tarot / oracle cards. It is a big help. I would have a hard time like you.
