Great tutorial! I used this vid to separate my supermarket basil plant into different pots, watered them and left them outside in the sun (currently having a super sweltering Southern US heat wave, so I can get away with it.) and they seem to be doing well so far! I was scared of messing something up when repotting but it seemed to have turned out ok. To other beginner gardeners: You can do this! It's easier than you think!
Love this idea! I once bought some grocery store pots of herbs and kept them underneath a grow light in winter....to not much avail. They did last a while, but they didn't grow much. I like this idea!
Absolutely. I must say though the ones you get at the garden centre aren't forced in the same way and will hopefully last a lot longer. But for that you pay the price!
basil is one of those that will grow easily from cuttings, as well. Just pop them into water, and they'll soon start growing roots. Then pot up the new plants.
Yes I've tried that as well - in fact that would have been good to do with the tops I chopped off but, too late, they were added to last night's stir fry! The more basil the better!
Great video, I made a very similar video to this when my channel was pretty new and for some reason last year it went mini viral and it is so embarrasing! I bet they are grown in peat as well...
WHAT??!! Under 10, I am so impressed!! You rock Jane!! Beat me to it!! 👍👌 I love this!! I will be doing it with the "living lettuce" they sell here!! Off with their heads!LOL These will be lovely additions to your herbs!! I love free and I love basil, a great vid!! Thank you!!💖
I totally do this 🤣 And even at the garden center I tend to buy the pots with many healthy plants in them so that I can separate them (and give them a chance to actually survive and thrive separately LOL) I did it today with some hyssop (I now have six pots instead of one) and have lovage, bay, and comfrey still to do. Should have done a video but you were faster. Great topic!
That is a great idea. I'm wondering what supermarkets do this? Whenever I order any fresh herbs online I only ever get the tops. Perhaps you can enlighten me. Anyway 'Every little helps'
