In Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, Ike and Soren are indeed close friends. A large and very vocal subset of the fanbase interprets their dynamic as a romantic bond, but the games never hint at Ike having a romantic bond with anyone, so there's very little evidence supporting that interpretation.

It's more the issue of getting too carried away. Fanon is not canon, I think Ike's FE9 supports should be pairings if we're going that whole route which would still include this support. It's literally the same dialogue he has always had lol...Ike smacking down a "boyfriend" though sounds very romantic to me lol. Getting his face pummled with Ragnell is reaaaaal smooth lmao. They're real homies though.

No, even if they were a male and female character, there would be a ton of debate. Ike didn't have any explicit romance with anyone (except Elincia in the North American localization of Path of Radiance, but that was a result of the localization). The fans that insist that Ike and Soren is canon is Fire Emblem's equivalent of the Bleach fans that insist that Ichigo and Rukia is canon. Ichigo ended up with Orihime and Ike ended up with no one (romantically speaking). Also, you're forgetting that the Tellius games had explicitly gay characters: Kyza and Heather being two examples, and none of them were subtle or left anything to be implied. If Ike and Soren's dynamic was supposed to be romantic, it would've been as subtle as Heather's attraction to Nephenee: about as subtle as an anvil.

@Matthew Muir you forget that those are to side characters while ike is the main lord in 2007 Japan having a main character be openly gay would probably be very bad on the marketing team

Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn had no marketing to speak of whatsoever; it was one of the reasons they were a cult classic,, i.e. reviewed very well by the five people that actually played them when they were new. Plus, marketing teams don't decide the content; the dev teams and sometimes the management decide it. The marketing teams just take what they're given and try to advertise it.

I really love their “love-not-love-but-really-is-love” dynamic? Bahaha buuut I absolutely haaaate how my boy Tormod is literally ignored a LOT ;( in Awakening and Fates? I think the remake? The DLC’s for those didn’t have him I don’t think. And then in Heroes, now granted I haven’t played this a whole lot, but see nobody is ever talking about him? And he’s not being brought back in this one ;( just makes me saaad. Tormod was best boy. For real. Hahah

You could say that Chrom and Robin is Based on Ike and Soren with the Tactician now treat everyone better than last time I'm not gonna sugarcoat and said that Soren is a D towards anyone that are not Greil mercenaries But he quite serious about his works so he's not gonna denied on doing thing that is best for business

Ike and Soren are really close friends in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Ike is even Soren's only friend. I imagine that Chrom having a close friendship with Robin was likely inspired by Ike and Soren's friendship, especially since Awakening was trying to be a "Fire Emblem Greatest Hits", incorporating gameplay and character archetypes from every FE game that came before it. Due to their close friendship and Ike not having any romantic dynamics with anyone in either game, there is a very vocal subset of fans who insist that Ike and Soren are in a romantic relationship (and I don't mean that they ship Ike and Soren; I mean that they insist, despite no evidence for it, and evidence to the contrary, that Ike x Soren is canon).

Yes, while I didn't show it, I can confirm that there is extra dialogue if you enter battle with a unit that has Emblem Ike equipped. Same with Corrin for Camilla, and Lyn for Hector.

Not to mention that the existence of characters like Heather and Kyza shows that, if the Tellius games were going for a romance between Ike and Soren, they would not have been subtle about it or left it unstated in any way. Ike and Soren are just friends; that's what's in the script.

We've only really heard him in his PoR iteration. I think Kyle is doing a slightly more mature voice for the RD version. You can also hear it in his new desert alt in FEH.

Where? I don't see Kyza and Heather anywhere. Yeah; the existence of Kyza and Heather and Radiant Dawn being about as subtle as an anvil when it comes to their orientations is pretty strong evidence against the 'Ike and Soren are a romantic couple' interpretation.

@@matthewmuir8884 just because it isn't explicitly stated that they were a couple, doesn't mean people can't say they were. There is a lot more evidence that they're a couple from what I've seen. And even then, two obviously gay people isn't proof AGAINST Ikesoren
