On March 23, 1911, the 109-metre luxury passenger vessel S. S. Yongala disappeared in a cyclone. She wasn't found until decades later, and all 122 aboard perished. Today, the Yongala wreck attracts diverse marine life and intermediate-to-advanced divers, who travel from Alva Beach or Townsville to explore the 14-28 metre dive site.
