Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition - A classic still worth playing today?

Larian has been running high lately with their latest hit Baldur's Gate 3. While everything did start with Divine Divinity in 2002, a closer link to that game would be 2014's Original Sin. As someone who played this to completion prior, is it still worth playing today?

I tired playing this but could not get into it for more than 3 hours. So thanks for reviewing it

Same here. I loved the previous titles but this I couldn't get into. It was indeed overwhelming and the dialogoues were too long and not for my taste. I loved Beyond Divinity and Ego Draconis but this.

i love the series and just started playing a bit on PS4. only problem is i like to spend literally hours looking at perks and skills and stuff, and it gets worse when I see unmentioned stats (like how intelligence reduces CD on spells). And im a dad of 2 so I dont have that time anymore. While i miss it, I can always go back and play my old favorites when the kids are big and/or moves out. Maybe it will feel amazing, maybe im a completely different person by then. Who knows.

I think this is a great game, but I can see that it isn't for everyone. Its definitely slow, and isn't for someone with little patience, low attention spans or someone not used to a lack of hand holding. However, if one takes their time with it and pays attention to all the little details, there's a real gem of a game awaiting for them. My favorite thing about the game is the multiple ways something can be accomplished, much of the time any idea you get on how to get something done, it works. Want to kill everyone? Go for it. Want to sneak by everything? Go for it. Want to talk your way out of things? Go for it. Want to pickpocket the thing you need instead of fighting? Sure... Still haven't played the second game and am looking forward to it. I didn't want to spoil myself with it first so I could enjoy this game as much as possible.

I really tried to play this game several times, each time I couldn't last more than a couple of hours. The dialogues were unnecessarily overwhelming and the lack of good quest tracking quickly made this game insufferable to play. Plus the lack of any kind of romance made companions feel very "artificial" and made me not care about any of them. But I am glad that this game brought Larian enough money to do DOS2, which was much more superior game in all regards, including the music (the only Larian's game where I genuinely enjoyed every bit of soundtrack).

Yeah, this game is definitely not as refined as Larian's future projects that came afterwards. Still, I did have fun with this one despite it not being as good as Original Sin 2 or Baldur's Gate 3.

Guess what, got this during this year's summer sale for only 1,50 €. Yeah, you saw right! Divinity OS 2 cost 13,49 and the source saga bundle (which contains also the 1st game) was 15. So, you see, I'm not going to complain too much if the game turns out to be bad. 😉 But thank you for the review!

This game was amazing up to hiberheim and the king boreas fight. After that, it felled rushed and unfinished imo.

Unfortunately, Larian ran out of money by the end of development, so that definitely could be why some areas feel less polished than others. OS2 is a far superior game to be as a result.

Oow that’s why. Not saying it was bad after hiberheim, was still oke and even good at some points, but i noticed a difference in pacing and overall quality. Playing the second installment right now and its good so far :)

Actually playing the series. Finished Divinity: Dragon Commander last night and going to DOS 1 now. The game came with classic and enhanced editions but people say that there is no reason to play the classic edition so I'm heading enhanced.

Yeah enhanced is the way to go. Hope you enjoy it!

There are some things people preferred in Classic version, like balancing. However , EE is indeed an improvement in many ways

It also had that ridiculous crafting system where all sorts of random junk could be combined together to create sometimes some amazing items. Too bad the overall story was terrible, a cardinal sin for any game trying to be an RPG.
@Powerhouse1

The story itself and the events that take place I don't think are bad. The biggest issue is with the pacing and the overall delivery of it. It's a shame considering how much better prior games from original sin were from a story perspective.

Isn't the story basically the same as Skyrim's and Dragon Age Origins'? Big bad world threatening dragon needs to be stopped, you are the chosen one to stop it

Understandable. it isn't as refined as the sequel.

I liked it, but it didn't stay in my memory that much. The combat system was really cool but I wish using lightning wouldn't be shooting oneself in the foot 99% of the time with all the blood on the floor making impossible to know who gets zapped. But it was better than the armor system in the 2nd and the bosses weren't as annoying. OTOH that must be one of the most boring storyline/lore in any RPG I've played. I only remember the investigation in the starting town which was interesting and funny, some death knights chasing me in a mine and a (shadow ? void ? ghost ?) dragon at the end. And the pocket plane with the goblin and the fates (or whatever those were called) was cool too. Young Bellegar was also a huge letdown to compared to the chaos-loving maniac but funny archmage he will become. I much preferred the dragon knight saga overall even if it probably has more flaws. To each his own... And yes, the music absolutely rocks. RIP Kirill, you're sorely missed even if Slavov made some really great tracks for DOS2

Well said and love the mini review here. DOS2 and BG3 are better games in my opinion, but I still find this one enjoyable enough for some of the skills not found in future titles (trip and ice walls come to mind). Also, Jahan is hilarious in any party.

@@Powerhouse1funny I remember him having a cool backstory (being a demon hunter, it's a given) but nothing about his personnality - and I like the "comically serious" archetype, usually. The mute rogue guy had a cool backstory/quest too, but same problem. And the 2 girls were... present 😅
@Powerhouse1
@Powerhouse1 6 месяцев назад
@@armelior4610 The rogue guy has like one funny moment the entire game. Bartidor was great for the role she played as an archer, but I didn't get too invested in her story. Madora was the powerhouse if we needed one. I definitely was more attached to the companions in DOS2 and even more so for BG3 with Karlach and Jaheira being incredibly memorable.
@armelior4610
@armelior4610 6 месяцев назад
@@Powerhouse1yeah the DOS2 companions are much better (love the red prince like I loved his "ancestor" in dragon commander), I just wish we could use all of them in one playthrough... BG3 I won't play before it's finished - I mean definitive edition-ed - but I don't have a lot of faith that the ones from BG2 won't be completely different characters... even if I didn't like Jaheira that much back then, too bossy 😄

@@armelior4610 Lol she still has her trademark sass, but she definitely has calmed down in her later years. Plus, playing as a druid is a ton of fun with the wide variety of animals on offer.

Its sad. This game is mainly getting shit on because of how absurdly good os2 got.

I agree. People forget that the first Original Sin won plenty of awards itself, although I do believe the second one is superior in many ways. There are, however, a couple of skills that are in this game and not in the second one (trip and ice wall come to mind).
