I have what I believe to be the 1st Generation Copy of this on BETA. I got it when I was working at Strings and Things and we were clearing out space in the guitar workshop. There was a whole box of tapes. Also on this tape is Bob Nelson & Natchez performing at some outdoor gig... I was at this show and it was mind blowing. The whole show was high energy...

Fender Lead I. That's why I got one back in the days. Although he still doesn't sound like me, that's alright. Life can be cruel in many ways.

Saw them in '82 at Tin Lizzy's Garage in Rahway New Jersey. I think Alan Sloane was still with them. Life changing!

pretty raw video, but worth suffering thru. for a non musician like me, this is one of the few bands i liked who do the technical, "fast playing" type stuff. there's actually some music in there behind all the stuff i don't "get"

This footage is from 1982 or 1983, as it's with Mark O'connor on Violin. This tune Punk Sandwich is from the 1979 album Night of the Living Dregs. Rare stuff, Thanks!

@BluePRSDude I think you're right b/c Charlie Lawing, the then-owner of Strings & Things in Memphis, brought a live vid of The Dregs on our tour bus when we were there in '84 & it pretty much looks the same.

Oh, btw, I do know of guitarist, a guy name Tony Spada who has a couple Lead models which he's played regularly since the early 80's.

For the kids in the audience, the reference to 1976 is incorrect. Not possible. Mark got into fusion, and electric violin in about 1979 (Sr year in High School - no recordings exist), and '82-'83 is the proper time period for when Mark was with the Dregs.

OH yeah, he had to have an extra guitar just for this one song for the different tuning. Given the fact that his Franken-Tele guitar didn't have a floating bridge, it probably would have taken like 30 seconds to change the tuning, but as you point out, it WAS a free guitar, and if you've got an extra guitar, and there's room in the equipment truck, you might as well not fiddle with your tuning mid-show if you don't have to.

I think Morse was the ONLY endorser of the Lead series. lol I know Elliot Easton used to talk about a guitar that Fender made him that he referred to as his "Lead I and a half", which I guess was just a Lead I model with an extra pickup or something, but I can't think of anyone else I've ever seen besides those two playing any of the Lead models.

@beeroosterm - I didn't post this, but it's happened to me too the couple of times I've tried posting videos to youtube - Short answer? The computer industry has made absolute hash out of audio/video formats and most conversion software is pitiful.

The audio doesn't match the video-at all.

I'm pretty sure this is from Memphis, Tennessee. You can see a double ferris wheel in the background of some of the song.

Morse endorses Engl amps these days. I don't think he's used Ampegs since the mid 80's.

I would like to post it, but I have not converted it to digital format. I don't have a BETA machine right now. It's on my short list...

@MrSniv Fine taste, have you! I wish the Dregs would have gone national, but as we can all see, if you don't act/look/sound like a freak, nobody cares...check out the CD "What If...?"

My understanding that Steve and Mark O'Connor did not get along well musically at all. Explains Mark's exit after one album.
