I learned Dixie Hoedown from an old Mark O'Connor record called "Pickin in the Wind." I do this bluegrass standard a little differently than Mark did, and I throw in some crosspicking. Crosspicking is a great technique using several strings at once to pick the melody. The trick is to pick each note on a different strings so that you don't have to pick up the finger fretting the last note, resulting all your melody notes ringing for much longer. It's very hard, but very cool.
