Am i correct in assuming that the friction cone was a double taper and that the outer drum can move up and down to do your forward/reverse?

Yes, when I showed the part with the bad bearings you can see the other friction cone. I like the system as I said as I can see what’s wrong if it doesn’t work and fix it.

I see those Dixon mowers a dime a dozen, are they that bad to work on? Looks like it mows well 🤔

They are cheap and I’d say reasonably easy to work on.
