This loooong winter season in Vermont, I plan to change ALL of the fluids in my gsxs750 and inspect, clean and re-grease the bearings in the steering tube, but to do that, I need the front of the bike "floating" off the ground. I saw some nice Pit Bull Jack Stands for $160 (ouch), and they require the purchase of frame sliders as well (ouch ouch). So I decided to try to make my own. They turned out better than I expected AND I only spent $40 (yay!).

Great project! For someone who can't really weld (like me) this is a great project to learn with.

I haven’t been welding for very long... and last night I realized my left bicep had a mild sunburn. I had no idea that welders kick off uv radiation! I am supposed to wear long sleeves, cover my skin! Or wear sunscreen. Oops! Next time I will 😎

Glad it helped! Easy to forget about the head bearings. After the rebuild I could feel the difference on the road.

a little advice, don't weld on your bike while your ecu, sparkplug ang battery negative terminal not unplug. This make your bike not running,because of the high voltage from the welding machine that running through your bike frame which directly connected as your bike negative ground, though your diy project is awesome.

The abba stand is about $500.00 the other one is almost $400 so considering how expensive motorcycle shops are I think im going to make this diy stand too, with one use it will more then pay for itself👍.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 8 месяцев назад
Thats exactly why I made my own. It seems too simple to charge so much for the tool. And I have more time than money lol

Solid work as usual. Might be a little too low of a clearance in removing the tires though.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
Agreed! If so I can remove the wheel when I have the front stand holding it up. Once the wheel is removed I can remove the front stand and get to work on the forks and steering head. 👍

If you watch their sales flyers it goes on sale for $90 to $100 every once in a while, throw a decent blade on it and you're good to go

Great job! Could you give tips about welding.I am not sure what kind to buy.I am looking easiest welding style.Stick?
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
Thank you! IMO the flex core MIG is the easiest to learn/start with. I bought a starter kit at Home Depot and just started playing. The inside of the welder cover has settings for different thickness metal. A great place to start.

It looks very similar to my abba stand... But I'm not sure if you can purchase them in Canada (I'm in the UK)
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
Yes the abba stand is somewhat similar but I think it attaches toward the rear of the bike, but it can be used with a strap to lift the nose of the bike. A very simple design too!

@@sstressfl yeah abba stand connects to the frame.. But I like your design and another awesome video mate.. Well done, great content.. I do appreciate your no frills approach and humour, look forward to seeing more. 👍

Nice idea, I may have to borrow from it. Also - I don't know how you manage to get any work done with those annoying kids voices in the background... 🤫

It works well! I've seen the effect of a parent that made hobbies a higher priority than their kids. The game room is right next to my garage space and hearing my kids play and laugh makes me very happy.
