DIY 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 Honda Civic Installing and Replacing Cabin Air Filter 

Finally a video showing how it's done! I found the instructions on an old Honda tech forum post, but it was very drawn out, if I followed it, I would've ended up removing the entire kick panel from the driver side, and part of the center console, thought to myself that there has to be an easier way and you showed me that there is! I'm going to do this this weekend on my 2000 Honda Civic Ex Coupe! My asthmatic lungs thanks you!

This is only true for 99-00 Civics and some 98 Civics. 96-97 Civic's do no not have a spot for the filter. I have two 96 civics and one 2000 civic.

What country is your civic from? I have a US model, 1997 EX, with AC, d16y8 engine, I don’t have that filter housing.

An old degraded cabin air filter would be why i keep finding what seems to be old and deteriorated foam in my 99 Si air vents. And one of my problems on the goose chase to restore AC this whole summer..

How important is the housing? The part is discontinued, and it seems like it wouldn't be a big deal to just shove the filter into the hole without the housing...

There is no official part for this but Is there any merit to adding some more screen to where the cabin air intake is at the top of the hood, all those small leaves/seeds will clog up the filter quickly if allowed to just fall in. Thoughts?

Lets say there isnt an air filter for the in cabin.. how much of a difference would this even make? Seems like the manufacturers didnt thinks it was a huge deal.. so whats the benefit?

Why do they make it so hard to get to? Maybe its not for guys but for a girl it is. Things like filters that need cleaning or replaced should be within reach and pull right out. Dream on Penny......
