In this video the trailer gets converted from a deck-over to a low-deck beavertail. Its powered by a single acting hydraulic power pak. It is built on top of twin 8 lug torsion axles by dexter. Total GVW is 12k. The majority of the trailer was built using salvaged and second hand metal.

Cool video! I always learn something new, in your videos. The big lesson today was using your plasma cutter, to fold your fenders on the dotted lines. Nice!👍

While watching the first video, when you initially mentioned that you were making it a "deck over" I thought, there's one aspect I would've done differently. I've built a few trailers over the years myself. My buddy and I built a 26' last summer. I can't get them low enough, it seems. I've been thinking about mounting a small crane on another 26' we have. I think I just about got it worked out in my head. You do great work! Looks awesome!

I looked at using lowboy tires and wheels, they are available in the same 8 lug patterns but are pricey. It would've netted me only about 3" of decreased height. Thanks for watching!

Curious to why you didn't build drive over fenders?

Such a HD frame and ONLY 6k axles..........don't you think 10k's would have been more appropriate ?
@unitedstatesofbuild4915
@unitedstatesofbuild4915 3 года назад
Yes, I wouldve loved 10k's. As a matter of fact, these are a common width so Im keeping my eyes peeled. The 6k's were a matter of availability, 6's are what I came across after a year of looking. New ones wouldve doubled the cost of the entire build. Thanks for the comment

USB (up to min. 6:48) I loved your videos! That's why am a subscribed. I recommend you to also post a link of the long video because, first it took you all that much it took you of which not all will be in a video. So posting the real looong best possible captured video will allow those into your operations to follow your step by step by step process to get your "United Well Built" piece of work, if you want. And that way is another way to monetize, if they allow you. That's what some do. Check if you want Andrew Camarata's Channel, he's as much possible into all details possible and humbly hard worker as you are. And also, since you got into the video posting, why not? You deserved it! Ok I'll continue watching! Oh something extremely important to me! Never expose yourself or your body or any part of you under any heavy weight that if something fails you were to be impacted, a body part were to get cut, or you can even lose your life. Is not worth it. If you have to absolutely be under that piece of heavy trailer chasis or whatever, add at least an extra strap, chain, something to stop the chassis from falling, another forklift, something, but take care! I hope you get me and take care! I'm serious. A falling huge piece of heavy equipment won't be tender to you at all. And again, is not necessary! Min. 12:30, that beaver tail operation is A DREAM MAN! LOVED IT!

So where should the axle lay from the tounge how far back what is the distance
@unitedstatesofbuild4915
@unitedstatesofbuild4915 3 года назад
I generally try to aim for a 2/3 : 1/3 ratio on trailer deck.

Thank yeah that give me a general idea when I am gonna do one so when you complete the build how do you get the paper work and registration for the trailer

Is there a trailer building guid out there that one can follow? Lol for instance how to you know hie far back to place the axle and such?
@unitedstatesofbuild4915
@unitedstatesofbuild4915 3 года назад
general rule of thumb I use is a 2/3 : 1/3 ratio, not counting the tongue. Im unaware of a guide, I learned from watching and speaking to others. Good luck on the project!

@@unitedstatesofbuild4915 for a trailer this size and of this capacity that is a good ratio. For a small utility trailer, say up to 16’, my grandpa taught me to set the center of the axle(s) 1/2” to 3/4” per foot of trailer bed (not including tongue). So a 12’ trailer would have the axle set back 6” to 8” from the center of the trailer. Scott

How did you make it so the tail locks??
@unitedstatesofbuild4915

2 rigid bars that are spring loaded and fit next to the hydraulics. They spring into place once the dovetail goes over 180*

What would happen if the hydraulics failed? Will the dove tail fall as you’re driving down the road?
