With only 4 pieces of square fabric, you can make this cute and comfortable nightgown for your little girl. It's easy! I give credit to my Mother-In-Law for coming up with these adorable nightgowns. We want to thank Hobby Lobby for providing the beautiful fabric for this post! Sponsored by Hobby Lobby.
*DETAILED Measurements for my 7 yr. old:
Front and Back Pieces
Around widest area (hip/bum) = 24" + 2" = 26"
Desired length from collar bone down = 25" + 1" = 26"
So I need to cut 2 square pieces 26" wide x 26" long
Sleeves
Around widest part of arm = 7", Double that number = 14"
Desired length from base of neck down the arm (to the elbow) = 13" + 1" = 14"
I need to cut two squares 14" wide x 14" long
Elastic
I used .5" wide elastic. Measure loosely around the base of the neck and then add 1" for seam allowance. For my 3 yr. old and 7 yr. old I used the same measurement of 15".

No criticism from me. Job well done, but I'd just like to say, I'm here because I'm looking for a quick gown to make for myself from some jersey material bedsheets. I was so lucky to have found this straightaway. the only change I'll make is, instead of four squares, I'll use two large rectangles (front and back), two squares (or maybe two smaller rectangles - we'll see) for the sleeves, and two very small squares for sleeve gussets (these will take away the puckering in the armpits). I thoroughly enjoyed the video, and the inclusion of the children playing. It reminds me of when mine were small. Thanks, ladies!

I love this tutorial, thank you for sharing. I think this is a easy and simple night gown. And I love the fact that this this dress isn’t sleeveless. I will try.

This is a wonderful video. Any video from my house would have kids in the background, too. Guess who I'm sewing for?! 😁 I used old flannel receiving blankets for the front and back and cut 13" squares from a third blanket for the sleeves. Turned out super cute, and I'm planning a bigger one for me. ❤️

Thanks for the easy project. I know what everyone's getting for Christmas. Now I have to figure out how to get everyone's measurements.

I have 2 questions if you dont mind. First I LOVE this video and the simple pattern. You made it incredibly easy to understand. I was wondering if first, you've ever made this into a womans shirt and how that turned out? Did you do the same basic measurements? Ok and second, this may sound like a silly question but I'm trying to picture the dress, did you sew the neckline all the way around including the sleeves. So that when you put in the elastic it went along the tops of the sleeves too? I'd live to make one for my niece. I'm excited to go look at your other videos!

Keri Ann Hunt I’ve made it into a shirt. And yes go all the way around the sleeves. It’s been years since I made this so I wish you luck!

Hack when threading the elastic pin the end your not using to thread through to the fabric so it doesn't chase the other side and get lost

I must be the only one who doesn't understand this: If it's for someone who is 24" round (extended to 26"), then are TWO pieces of that size needed or just ONE?

I just bought some leopard print jersey fabric to make a shirt for me out of this pattern. I made a llama gown for my granddaughter using this pattern. I love it!

Is the elastic 1/2"? You said turn under the neck 3/4 "...but the seam you sew there, is it 1/2"? Thanks!

Don't put the pins in your mouth. Could be dangerous if you cough,or get bumped.

Love the pattern & the idea, but why, oh why is *ALL* the pretty DIY nightwear I ever see directed to kids only??!? It's just as if all grown-up women went stark naked at nights, which I don't believe for a second 😄 Or wore only pyjamas, which I hate, they are uncmfortable and look unattractive too, ugh.
