@@AN2Felllla Awesome mate, I might do a full build video that goes through the design and building process, then another that breaks down every single cost. That work?
From what I’ve gathered about overlanding is that it’s a mix between having enough essential supplies, all the while being light and mobile and just having a fun time😂. Honestly you did a great job👍
Ditch the redarc & buy an enerdrive unit & a 2000w inverter...Enerdrive will take up to 800w of solar. (House panels)...you have the roof realestate to run 800w easily & already have enough lithium to be completely electric...by doing this, all energy will be free. (No gas)
About 7k total for the walls, roof, lifters, aluminium capping, external bed brace, and all the cnc cutting. And I got them from Penguin Composites down in Tassie 👍🏼
I like your approach to your conversion - simple, effective, efficient, good looking. Too many people over-spec their builds and make them too complicated to run/maintain/repair. Yours is just right for your circumstances. Well done. Subbed!
I do have some warm white ones in the interior for a night, and ones that change colour under the overhang of the roof for the exterior. So I should be pretty set for a christmas party at night hahaha
Hi I like the build but I definately could not have a toilet near my food prep and stove. So I would have to lose the Dunny. I have travelled all over the world in Land Rover and Russian Gaz 66 truck......toilet? ...into the wild. I am currently loving 'RED DOG" , my LR Defender 1993, dual cab with canopy on the back. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Yva7XXOV9Y.html "worrying about weight" .... while you are pulling the fridge out in a drawer. For what? The fridge would be happier w/anything around it, because heat causes energy. Table: Have you weighted the table? My wild guess, from what I installed in my truck is: at least 15kg for the woodn plate, + the stuff underneath. Make it from Aluminium and you save easy 15kg or more.
Hey Jess, what you with the Defender camper is very impressive, my compliments! I'm currently building a Defender camper myself, and also I have zero experience. But... The most satisfying thing about the whole build is that eventually, you will pull it off, and the result is even better than you initially thought it would be. It is worth every blood, sweat, tear, and the occasional swearing. Are you still going on an Overlanding trip? Subbed btw 😎
Jess ~ Dude …. you said you were looking for quotes to buy one and the quotes were way out of your budget. What was your budget ? Not sure & I don’t need to see you bank account but I think you could at least give your subscribers some insight on the cost of the build. I liked the tour but I really think it would be helpful to let your audience know time & cost of what is involved. I doubt you’ll look at the comments but hope you’ll take some feedback. Keep up the grind & good luck from Maryland in the United States. Loved the out takes at the end ! Makes me feel like you’re a real person !✌🏻
Needs clear windows in the pop up! I am building a Defender 130 with a FWC on an aluminum flatbed. Looks like a nice build! After a yr on the road you prob will ditch propane and the water filters :D Last road trip was Chile to Alaska! :D Keep it up!
I’m not sure if the video shows it or not but you can see out of the windows super easy. It’s never bothered me anyways. What did you swap out the propane for? And I do agree if I was only staying in Aus I’d happily ditch the filters but would definitely still keep them if heading to south east Asia. Thanks for the feedback Travis 🙌🏼
@@Wildbonde Been to Asia always can buy large bottles 19L cheap and less chance of getting sick. Always bleach your tanks few drops is all. Switched to a white gas set up. Much lighter and gives you so much more storage!
Yeah that’s what I was trying to avoid, having to buy bottled water I mean. I’ll see how we go. And thanks for the white gas tip, I’ll have a look into it!
Very nice, right. I would add a Maxxair on the roof to help ventilation when side windows can not be opened. Have you planning to fit diff lockers in the future?
Would love to see start to finish series. I know I would watch every one. You did a fantastic job. This is one of the best builds I have seen . Most of the builds I see are to complicate and have to much un nessasary junk in them . Thanks for the video, I knew I was not crazy in thinking a camper should be just what you need no more no less. This is what the whole overland camping is to me. Thanks again.
Very cool build. Love the colors inside and out. Bed is genius! Wish you had shown us the mechanism and the garage in back. I love your toilet, very well made! Always a delight to see someone building their own composting toilets rather than paying price gouging prices to retailers like $1000 for a plastic toilet - ridiculous! You should do a video on how you built it. I want to see the electric fan set up and know if you run it all the time or periodically only, and how much power it takes. Do you stir up the #2 or just layer it with peat moss? This was a lot of work, great cabinets, good layout. What a fun RV to have! Going off roading is the best. The low whine of music in the background is hurting my ears. Best not to add music to a demo, DIY, or tour. Even if its not competing with the human voice, music alienates. You get far wider audience appeal without music than with. Silence is golden.
I'd put an access between the camper and cab. You won't really need those middle row seats. Waste of space you could use it more for compartments for the camper.
The same company that fabricated the walls fabricated the roof for me. Its a fibreglass mould with a wooden internal frame, plus the sail tracks screwed in to allow the canvas to be secured to it. It works a treat!
looks awesome mate.. good luck with your travels.. If you're headed through Bulgaria on your way to iceland look me up. Ive a 110 overlanding conversion. btw: do you intend to post links to the guys / products youve used in the setup of your rig?
Honestly so so great!! You have done such a fab job :D Should be really proud - looks absolutely amazing! Will you ever look at adding 'legs' to the camper so you can take it on/off? Guess yours is light enough you probably don't have to worry! And last question - where did you get your blinds done? could you install them yourself? love that they block out all the light! Thank so much!! (ps - we have just purchased a Land Rover Defender ute and are renovating an old school slide on camper for the back - so super excited when we found your instagram today!) :) C&J
Ohhh thanks so much guys I really appreciate it 🙌🏼 unfortunately the rear taillights are built into the bottom of the camper so if I were to Jack it off I wouldn’t have a tray or rear bumper. I do regret that decision so being able to take it off would be ahhhmazing! And the blinds come with the Eurovision window and yes incredibly easy to install 👌🏼
Absolutely loving the videos!! They are incredible!! Just curious about how you said you only use the inverter for Sam’s computer.. does that mean you charge your MacBook on 12 volt?
Plus I suppose it brings the build cost down as well as makes it easier to build since you didn’t have to spend hours welding everything together, plus if any panels do get damaged then rather than cutting out the piece and replacing it you could simply un do it and replace it for a fraction of the cost whilst keep its life span to a maximum
I hope you do make a build video, I've been looking at building a small slide on pop top camper and just can't get my head around the roof, so many questions, the penguin composite web site isn't that friendly, nice black canvas by the way not seen that before, well done on the build - safe travels - cheers
I like the build - It's a nice space - well thought out Great fridge location (easy from inside and out) & plenty of windows. Can you comfortably sit and hang out in the seats with the top down - in my ACCC I made sure I could do just that. ( appears that you are about 100 mm shy from comfortably being able to sit upright. I might have installed a larger door in your rig just to open things up . But that is just because I come from a van with a big sliding door that I enjoy the hell out of. I also just bought an Alu- Cab Canopy Camper which has a big ass door in the rear and very large awnings which opens it up a bunch when you need to hang inside in the rain and the like.
How much did this cost you and how long did it take? I'd love to chat with you about this mate, super sweet. I've got my eyes on a Defender for a year or so of travel starting in the next couple of years and would love to convert it into a camper in some way or another.
I would build an evaporative cooler for air conditioning. I built a small one for mine and it uses very little electricity and is really cold when it’s not too humid
Very nice build Jess. Me and my girl have gone through a similar exercise with our Laro 110. Travelled the whole of Europe and loved our setup. One thing we are missing is the workplace in the back. Great inspiration- thx for that!! Mart & Mirte
So well thought out mate!! I've been thinking through my necessities in a build lately, you feel like you're missing out on an indoor shower/walled off bathroom?
Thanks legend! I did consider it but decided against it as a lot of my friends who have them said they use the outdoor shower 95% of the time anyways, so for me I figured I'd save the hassle of building it into the space.

@@therobodoctor Yeah its definitely doable, and initially I was going to save the Shoe compartment space for the shower, but it all comes down to priorities and what your must have list is. For me the interior shower just didn't quite make it 😊
@@Wildbonde u asked if we would add anything and everything I thought of u had done then I thought of solar but a few minutes later and u mentioned it haha, love watching your journey you make it so good to watch reminds me of my travels with mum and dad around Australia
I’ve wanted one for yeeaaarrrsss and finally was in a position to purchase one 👌🏼 that’s awesome to hear mate, hopefully I can keep it running for that long 😂
The twin 10" filters are great for sediment and taste/odour (+ some chemical removal), but very few cartridges do much of a job at killing bacteria - most use silver as a bacterostatic (is stops bacteria growing on the carbon) but not as a bactericide (is actually kills bacteria). If you want to kill bacteria and viruses (which are
