This is my take on the baby 8 sequencer, I built this because I said I would never get into modular synths but now I've dipped my toe in to the world or control voltage I think I might have to go ahead....
This is the vero layout I used, theres loads more based on this circuit...
www.pinterest....
The Sawtooth I will go into more detail on as I am in the process of building it into its own stand alone mini effect in a box. its based around this reverse avalanche: www.lookmumnoc...
Oh and the box design is based around a sign from Orford Ness, its like the UK version of Area 51.
Enjoy the vid

It's so funny. You and me are totally syncing all the time. My first DIY-pedal was the HM-2 a year or two ago. Since then i've built maybe 20 pedals. RAT was the first pcb i designed in Eagle and i love that pedal dearly. Now this summer i've built two baby 8 based sequencers and started on a modular XD. I took a saw and frankensteined a book shelf to a wodden enclosure and just started. I also made the ms20 filter this summer but as a module. I also told everyone that i'll stay away from modular synthesizers because of the dangers. And now im totally f:ed. For life probably. Crazy fun :-). I'm also into doom and sludge btw. I'm more on the crust/hc/punk side of the spectra. Closely related though :-). Excuse my english. Im from Sweden. 🇸🇪

Ok cool! How are you finding modular? I’m just trying to get my head around the power supply but basically I can see what I am trying to achieve in building would be better suited to modular that peals but it’s good to know how to do both!

Yes! I think that is what´s so attractive with the DIY hobby to me. You acquire a broad set of skills that let you create the Crust/Doom instrument you always wanted/needed in the most convenient format and with all the bells and whistles you need without being limited by your abilitys. But to get to that point you need that mindset of yours "It´s good to know how to do both!". Personally i like your seq and filter because of the portability, it seems very convenient and cool to me that you´re able to take it to a studio or a rehersal or whereever. And if you just want to use it as a module with a modular system you can, just velcro it on top of the synth. I like it! I´m finding modular super fun and interesting and i have learned so much from it in a very short time. It´s crazy really. A year ago i didn´t know anything at all about VCO´s or VCA´s or envelope generators. You´re building it focusing at one module at a time and often the circuits is pretty simple and small and understandable but when you have a bunch of them and are able to connect them to each other in different ways you have a complete beast that´s very advanced and the possibilities is endless. If you think about it. What you do when you are creating patches and routing in different ways is really to design/create circuits. Many times you have a idea about what is it you want to do but when you hook it up it doesn´t do that at all. It does something completely different, sometimes different and much better than what you aimed for, sometimes not. But it makes you think about signals in a different way. Besides that it´s also super fun to play with as a instrument and you can create such brutal sounds, its ridiculous. I have a folder i made for some guy with pictures of my PSU and bus board and the Vero Layout i used. I can send it to you if you want to? I have other good links about PSU´s too. I´ll send it to you if we can get in contact somewhere. I have fb/messenger and my name is Jimmy Hägerström, you can add me there if you want. If you dont feel like adding me i recommend that you search for "MFOS Wall Wart Power Supply" on google and go to the MFOS/Music From Outer Space page and you will find a very popular good DIY-PSU that many people use in their modular synths. The MFOS site was made by a pioneer in DIY-modular named Ray Wilson. He started working with synths 1968 and kept going until he passed away in 2016 but his webbpage is still up and runned by his friends and you can still find schematics for all the modules he designed, a crazy amount. I believe you also can buy pcb´s and kits of his designs and stuff. But the amount of information you find on that page is amazing. Music From Outer Space. I think Moritz Klein that i talked about yesterday also has a video about designing a dual PSU for modular synths. He builds the MFOS supply if i remember correct. What is confusing you with the PSU? The 16-pin IDC that Eurorack use?

@@JimmyHagerstrom cheers for the reply! Yeah the power source is just a lot different to positive and negative and everything has to be linked. I think the first thing I need to do is make the power supply and the box/case. I want to build it so it goes on top of my bass speaker and drive it thru that so it has its own sound source when I record with it like a guitar would. Yeah just message me on Instagram unholy audio, maybe take you phone number off the previous message there’s a lot of scammers on RU-vid.

@@unholyaudiochannel I dont really care about the scammers, im so used to be flooded with junk daily, i barely want to use my e-mail no more because of all the junk. Internet has changed a lot, big players and scammers. I was surprised that youtube even let me post it, i though it would red flag it immidately because of the word whatsapp, but they didn´t. But yeah, i will edit it. No purpose for it to be there anymore. I dont use Instagram but i know i have a account. It´s linked/the same as fb, right? But fb messenger doesn´t work with insta it seems? I cant find you there. I´ll just download the insta app then, that should work anyway. I got a order with components this friday and in that order is parts for a PSU, i will build one myself shortly. I have completed the first row of modules, 8 or 9 modules i belive it is. So i need to build a case for the next "floor" or level or whatever is the proper word. I plan to use separate PSU´s for each row, i dont really know how close i am to the roof with the power consumption. Dont want to fry anything. Also it makes sense to not have to draw cables between the boxes. Sounds interesting with the bass speaker. That will look great and sound massive :-). I´ve messed around and tried all speakers i have at home. Old 80´s piooner stereo setup, a marshall 65W, monitors i use when recording, bluetooth speaker. All have their own charm. Hm, the mixer module on your synth will give you as many inputs as you want hooked up to your bassamp also. If you want to connect drummachine or background tracks from your phone or whatever it might be. I find myself using the mixer inputs a lot. It´s so fast and easy to use and with the volume pot you got all the control you need. I´ll download the Insta app and find you there now :-), i have some questions about some of your projects i want to ask you. Your pedals always look great, better than all the factory made ones. I love that sooty look with the strong contrasts.
