I built your version of the toilet paper Alcohol Stove, but after the fuel was about spent, the paper started burning. I bought a Carbon Fiber Felt Plumbers pad.... used that as a wick .... The Lowes one quart paint can with a smaller 2 1/2 " can inside (to force the felt to make a wick around the top) It made a ring of fire and when the fuel burned out, the carbon felt did not burn. I have a Skoolie RV with a wood stove.., I put this alcohol stove inside the wood stove. That worked better than expected... the flat top of the wood stove got up to 400 degrees F. Plenty hot to cook or boil water. The outside temp was 50 and within an hour, the inside temp was 70. I wouldn't use this all night, but it was great to take the chill off and cook some food.. Thanks for your video...
Suggestion: In a car it could be dicey as that one quart can would be really hot and a fire hazard. I saw another vid where the fella put the quart can (the one that burns) inside a clean gallon can. Seems much safer! He also said he puts a layer of sand in the bottom of the large can and around the sides to act as a buffer. The inside can gets hot, transfers the heat to the sand, and you still stay warm. Also with the inside can lifted a little before you light it, you can use the smaller can lid to snuff out the flames directly. I think you need a small piece of plywood, (I wrapped one in foil) as a base to sit on the pass seat...much caution needed inside a car though. Make sure it is stable, keep lid close to snuff and crack a window for some fresh air too etc!
the paper is only a wick, you can use dryer lint or sand. Use the top of a tuna can as a flame diffuser, either cut it down so the flame is just at the edge or punch several large holes in it. I would leave the alcohol in the bottle until ready to use and keep a small fire kit in with the stove. It should all fit in a gallon paint can
I've watched a few videos about these heaters but you gave good ideas about the matches, the opener and how to keep one in the car in case of emergencies. And I really like the Idea of the paint can, cause you could make a few up and have them in the pantry for emergencies. The one question I have and no one addresses is how long will it burn if burn continuously.
Two things in this video are at times like GOLD in this day and age 😉😃...did you use 91% alcohol? I know 70% will work as well, tho. Nice idea with placing the matches and the lifter. Yes electrical tape would be better than gorilla tape. Such great tips! Thanks my friend. Take care and God bless. Merry Christmas! 🎄 🙏🏻🕯
What do you place on if using inside your home? Is it still safe? All the videos ive watched have not addressed this issue. They always say car and are placed on concrete.
