Beautiful. I've been making my own alcohol inks for a few years. Dollar Tree sells alcohol markers (just like sharpies) in a package of 8 for $1. I get 2 packs and double the amount of ink to intensify. Less alcohol helps the color get richer. I let them sit overnight. It's pretty easy to take out the nib (writing part) and cartridge with some hemostats. I always squeeze the rest out to make sure and get it all. Sometimes I do them in a small shallow dish (covered) and after they are done, I use a small funnel and pour them into similar bottles like you have. I even mix colors to try and get different colors. Love your channel.

I just did the same thing today. I used two packs of markers per jar, and I took the tip of the marker and used that to. There is so much ink in the tip part, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else doing that.

I make my own. I don’t put my “ink” into the dropper bottles until it’s completely made. I put the 91-99% isopropyl alcohol and marker cartridge in a plastic soufflé cup first. You can get them on amazon. I let mine sit overnight. When you’re ready, then you can use the funnel to pour the completed ink into the dropper bottles. Also, it takes a little bit of tweaking to find the right ratio of alcohol per color for the right color saturation. The higher the alcohol content (I.e. 99%) the better the inks will work as well.

I want to say I started out with 30ml of alcohol, and found that I wanted the concentration of the pigments to be bolder. I’m using about 20ml of alcohol now. When using highlighters, bear in mind, the color of the highlighter doesn’t always translate to the color of the ink. For instance, purple highlighter makes pink ink.

It's a bummer that you don't get white sharpie, as that's often the most expensive alcohol ink! Cool knowing about the highlighters, as I've been wondering about those. I cut the plastic covering off mine, it made sense to do so.

I think your success would have been even better if you used 99% alcohol. You can't find it in stores but you can get it from Amazon. I think the colors would have dripped a bit more for you.. You can also get deeper/darker colors by using 2 or 3 markers per bottle. #ProTip do not leave the cotton in the bottle to long or they begin to break down and put chunks into your projects. lol Use throw away cups to soak and then put into bottles once the cotton is white. Thank you so much for sharing with us..I always enjoy your experiments...

I liked how they turned out, but that's my opinion. They are not pastels, they are just extremely watered down. Try using mason jars with multiples of each color, use only enough alcohol to cover them, keep them in the jars until the felt is completely drained of ink, and keep adding more marker felts and alcohol. You will be making a very concentrated ink that can be used as is in tiny doses or watered down with more alcohol.

i think the actual white alcohol ink might be denser than the rubbing alcohol/sharpie. Maybe the alcohol used is different than rubbing alcohol? Either way while not the intended effect it's certianly pretty! There's a lot of neat things u can do with markers and rubbing alcohol. I did something similar to this to make galaxy colored sneakers but i used crayola markers. Maybe using the ink from artist alcohol markers would look more like regular alcohol ink? IDK I'm not a resin artist just a regular artist and i usually work with alcohol markers so this is very interesting to me!

Pigments aren’t really gonna “truly” dissolve in alcohol or resin. In resin, pigments color it fully (meaning it’s gonna pretty much be opaque from the start with the pigments fully mixed in), alcohol inks make resin more transparent, acting closer to a tint (in order to get them opaque like with pigments you’d have to use more ink, or use an alcohol ink that can help to gather the color and make it sink (like the white ink Heather used)). Powders are still really good to use, but they’re not gonna get the same effect as inks are made up of dyes and not powders.

You can also use the liquid printer inks to add to alcohol. Also, if you make any alcohol ink with pigment, you can add a BB from a BB gun in the bottle. When you shake up the bottle, the BB helps mix the ink. Like how spray paint cans are made with the marble in them to mix up the paint.

For a stronger dye that might be easy to get, try wood strainers, the concentrated little bottle stuff that you usually mix with water. When I was young I was a graffitiest and this is how we made our own cheap ink, but instead of mixing with water we used iso alcohol as it dried damn quick and clean (or back then we could get cheap BIG bottles of a certain brand and just put the whole thing in a marker). The stuff usually isnt that expensive, especially as its extremely concentrated you dont have to use heaps. One benefit of this is you could measure your amounts and try different concentrations and get consistent results. Anywayz, love ya work!
@PAEz...
@PAEz... 4 года назад
@Crucibelle Wood stainer ;P Actually I think you need to search for "wood stain'. Unfortunately the stuff we use to use (Prooftint) has changed and no longer available in a huge amount of colours like it use to be and I cant be sure its the same formula as that was 20 odd years ago. The old stuff was water based where as the new stuff is spirit based so I cant be sure it mixs with alcohol like the old stuff (I know water and alcohol mix fine). I had a quick look on amazon and didnt find much but there where a couple of water based stains. like..... www.amazon.com/Birchwood-Casey-Walnut-Stain-3-Ounce/dp/B0000C5158/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=wood+stainer&qid=1578974744&sr=8-7 ..so maybe. I looked for an alternative and found a thread where people where looking for more colours but the products they listed where Australian (where prooftint is sold and where I live). But as an example check out these nice colours ready for mixing..... www.ubeaut.com.au/dye.html ...heres a link to the thread that mentions it..... www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?t=6572 Hope you find some nice cheap alternatives for yourself! I cant afford to do any of this but damn I love watching maker videos!

Homemade inks don't work as well on glass or ceramic pieces. I've made homemade alcohol inks and used some of them to ink up a vase. The look I wanted was dripping, which it worked well for, but if I wanted more of a traditional slower flow of inks I'd need to use regular alcohol ink. You could make your own that flow more like regular alcohol inks I would think if you mixed blending solution with the ink rather than alcohol (because blending solution as a binder in it) . But at that point you're probably better off just buying regular alcohol ink.

THat was so cool:) maybe play around with the amount of alcohol you pour into each sharpie(as it were) for stronger ""heavier" tint?? . I used highlighter pens to make blacklight lamps, same thing soak the ink into (I used water at the time) and set up a black light behind them, they still work five years later:") I have a question for you or any of the peeps posting, Does Pinata white pearl, work instead of just white?. I live in canada, who has some idiotic thoughts about shipping the inks and the resin and charging more. But im making up a list of canadian suppliers if that would be helpful to anyone

It dosent do the drippy thing but it makes me happy not to have to buy super expensive colors, and the food color is transparent so any glitter or imbeds still show up nice. Also, I went to the link you posted on a previous video about the resin you use and they just, weren't selling it. A little sad, I wanted to see if I liked it better then what I was using. Your cube looks lovely

I double my markers and use a 91 percent or higher alcohol. The metallic markers work too but you have to shake while using them. Wish I could post a few pics of some things I did with them.

In other videos I watched, and saw this technique worked. You cut off the tip from the bottom of the sharpie, use needle nose pliers to pull out ink pad, and works a lot cleaner

I make mine in portion cups(like jello.shot cups w lids) and I add the ink from 2 sharpies for more saturated colors. Leave over night. U can also get opal powders or even cheap eywshadow pots from dollar store and add. Then u get pearl inks.(just make sure u shake them well before use of course) Then I pour into my dropper bottles.

Love this Heather thanks so much xxx might be possible to add/mix white Pinata ink into rubbing alcohol to dilute its strength ? Not sure this would produce less white spots but the cube is my favourite for sure xxx

You can play around. More alcohol will make weaker colours unless you add more ink. Less alcohol may give you deeper colours, but you just have to try different levels of alcohol vs ink.

Ty for sharing I use two sharpies in each bottle and cut them in half long ways leave them 24 hrs very easy and a lot more budget friendly & am Definately going to try the suggestion of adding pigment

You could probably use two sharpies in one bottle to deepen the color, or do two batches with less alcohol per batch then mix them together just to make it more saturated. I think the white is a little to heavy for the homemade inks. Yours turned out way better than when I tried it!

I'd say it works. If you would like more saturation, I would say you could try using 2 sharpies to one bottle, or even cutting the sharpie insert into smaller sections, cutting the plastic outer shell of the cartridge. Another thing may be the TYPE of alcohol that is used, 99% Isopropyl, that is used often for cleaning computer circuit boards and the like (it dries even faster) that may work even better for this. Definitely makes me want to try this out now, will have to after I move later in the year XD

The big circle is beautiful! How about trying to mix the white directly in the bottles with the colors (as you did in your other video)? Wouldn't you'll get rid of the white dots? 🤔

So, does it work? Yeah -- overall, it's a success! They didn't seem to have the weight that "real" alcohol inks have, though. I think I would use them to tint the resin all one sheer color, because the backs of all the pieces were really vivid and pretty. The white alcohol ink shows too much on the front (for my taste), so I'd just skip that and use these alcohol inks as tints.

Love your hair and makeup and energy and hustle! I think they might be darker if they were made with a little less alcohol in the bottle. They still turned out cool. I think the swirled disk looks kinda like a Lisa Frank rose with sparkles or dew drops! Love your channel and I’m always looking forward to your videos!💖💖

I feel like it worked out pretty well! 🙂 I almost feel like the Sharpie colors fall to the bottom and make it pastel and the white acrylic ink floats to the top. I would use the Sharpie ink if I wanted more pastel colors and in the long run it will probably save us a lot of money in the end. 💗💗

I agreed that you should be very careful but surprisingly I haven't had too much of an issue with these. If you take a whiff of the 91% rubbing alcohol that'll bring your nose hairs haha but not too bad
