Proper use of technical crochet terms will help to keep the verbiage less convoluted. "Chain 3, join to the first chain with a slip stitch." "Work 8 single crochet stitches into the ring. Join with a slip stitch." Etc. Crochet does not consist of knots, but stitches working together to make a material. With knots you can loose a couple and the material will stay together. With crochet when you loose one stitch the whole work unravels.
@param1n597
@param1n597 9 лет назад
I think the reason she uses knots and other sayings instead of the correct terms is because some people might not know the terms and would get confused on the video
@sunflowerXOkitty
@sunflowerXOkitty 9 лет назад
Jonathan Dickens I'm a beginner and her terms help me understand the steps. The correct terms are too confusing. It's the same as if you are going to see a doctor, you won't understand him if he speaks the medical terms to you
@SummerAzures
@SummerAzures 9 лет назад
sunflowerXOkitty But if you don't learn the correct terms then you'll not be able to follow patterns correctly. It's a bit confusing at first, yes, but ultimately it's helped me so much more to know the correct terms.
@tsukinarita-velazquez9851
@tsukinarita-velazquez9851 9 лет назад
+sunflowerXOkitty and to add to what Summer Azure said, seeing as how you're already on youtube, there are PLENTY of beginner crochet videos for you to learn what a single crochet, chain, and slip stitch are. most amigurumi don't go past these 3 simple crochet terms. and trust me, those tutorials together won't take as long as this one video. i should know. i learned to crochet by watching youtube videos.
@baseballnine5432
@baseballnine5432 7 лет назад
You can google the CORRECT term and find out what they mean and how they are done. You can't google; knots, slips, etc. Use the correct terms and it's MORE beneficial to a beginner because you learn it right the first time and can translate that to other patterns. Medical terms are looked up as well so yeah the Dr should use the medical term otherwise a Dr telling you it’s a rash is a NOT helpful when they should be telling you it’s herpes zoster, Molluscum contagiosum, etc. As someone previously said if you can learn with the wrong verbiage you can learn with the correct verbiage. OP-thanks so much for putting your creativity out there!!

It would also help if you knew the vocabulary of the stitches too. Makes it easier for a crocheter to follow.

If she used the correct terminology, beginners would learn it. If they went from this video to another beginner video that used correct terms, they'd be totally lost. Hell, I'm almost lost and I'm hardly a beginner!
@theseshininglights9071

As a beginner, this is the only tutorial I can use, because she's NOT using terminology. Therefore, I can HOW to do the stitches before learning the names of them.
@brummieinbristol522

+theseshininglights if you could follow using the wrong terms you can follow using the correct terms. if she had used the correct terms you wouldn't now need to re-learn them
@theanimefan00
@theanimefan00 6 лет назад
Not just the terminology. She apologised for the lenght of this video, saying it is too long. God... all the other crochet tutorials that I saw are minimum 30 minutes long. That is because they really tell you how many stiches you should chrochet in how many rows, and it is exactly followable. But saying things like: "I don't really know how many stiches I crocheted, I just eyeballed it..." and "I skipped every 3 or 4-th stich to decrease..." That is totally not followable for me at least. I tried to follow it, and my sphere just turned out like a cone. Happy crocheting by the way! I already did 2 cactuses :D
@PeachPlastic
@PeachPlastic 9 лет назад
I like your approach to it. Every other tutorial I've watched insist that you count, and most suggest to start by doing a magic ring (which I dislike, personally). Your tutorial helped me to just try amigurumi by reducing the initial worries I had about it being too technical/mathematical for me. Thanks a lot! It's actually quite fun! :)
@taleahallen4635
@taleahallen4635 6 лет назад
I've been crocheting for years and this is so confusing. Please just use the correct terminology, don't call them knots or braids call them single crochet and chains. It was so hard to follow because the directions weren't given until after the stitch was taught and then all of a sudden we're on to the next step. People watching this most likely already know how to crochet, if you really want to teach how to do it I'd suggest giving instructions first and then teaching it. Also for the ball every time you start a new row you chain one, you did chain one but didn't give any direction to do so. Very frustrating.

Except she learned how to do it from her mom that way. It is hard to change your terminology when you have been crocheting like that for years. If she cannot change it, then it is best to leave it at that. It’s not her fault.
@carolinekalish7451
@carolinekalish7451 4 года назад
@@serenekim5409 Well her mom taught her wrong and you can teach an old dog new tricks. if she not using the right terms she shouldn't be doing these videos.
@serenekim5409
@serenekim5409 4 года назад
@@carolinekalish7451 she CAN be making these videos, people like me can make them just fine. They may not be for everyone, but some people find them helpful. And she doesn't have to change her way of doing it, so don't call it wrong. She can do what she wants to do, and if you don't like it, then don't watch her videos. But lots of people like me can follow and enjoy them.

When it comes to RU-vid cacti... these are the best I’ve seen. If you made patterns and/or described the way you made these all step by step you’d make a fortune lady.... I wish you had a pattern for all 4 of these, I would have purchased all of them. I’m not a beginner but I watched this video so many times to get my cacti’s exactly like yours. Thanks so much for this video but a pattern would be great! They are so cute! Best on RU-vid!

All moves are similar, once you try it, you'll realise that it just looks hard :D when you know how to make these cacti, you'll know how to make other things, like owls and smiles and other stuff :D all the same, only bigger/smaller

I've found that doing the circle for the "dirt" and making it a small ball, stuffed, then you're not fighting with the stuffing and you can just put the glue around, and shove the ball in. It's a little cleaner. This was a really good tutorial. Thank you

I love the little things that you make but watching your tutorials are confusing simply because you dont tell what stitch you do, and how ,many to do, instead of saying knots you could call the stich for what it is, a single crochet, and say yea the first round we are going to single crochet in each stich across for the second round we will crochet two single crochets in each stitch around this is how we expand the project etc etc. Ive been crocheting for over 10 years and your tutorials still confuse me . Like i said love your channel it just is hard to follow you.
