Diy Arri Trinity - test & balance - Weebill S & Glidecam Gimbal. Should you make a DIY arri trinity. With a glidecam and a weebill s. Are there any benefits of a fake arri trinity. A lot of questions about a weebill s gimbal as fake arri trinity: let's look at some raw DIY arri trinity footage.
Let's compare the DIY arri trinity to some gimbal footage shot on the zhiyun weebill s 24fps with no stabilization. Looking at the feedback from last week's weebill s & glidecam video, you wanted to see raw footage shot on the weebill s minity. Here it is, and I will also go over how to make a DIY arri trinity and how to set it up.
Now, after using the fake arri trinity gimbal, there are some drawbacks to this weebill s rig. When operating the weebill s minity, I often can't see the screen on the camera, and there is no right way to ad a monitor. You will need to be an experienced glidecam operator and use basic gimbal techniques to make it work properly, but is it the DIY arri trinity worth it.

Is it just me who noticed the footage from this DIY rig shaking a lot more than just from gimbal?

It is really hard to tell. In some cases the gimbal only wins and in other the diy rig does better.

@@PeterMakholm it is really shaky :( maybe the motors are vibrating because of the angle...you propaply dont feel that because you grab it all the way in the back. reduce the power the motors a bit

I saw the same shaking on both, it might be more noticeable on the minity because the up and down of walking is not as noticeable, isolating the shake

Shaking is probably caused by IBIS fighting with wide angle lens and gimbal. Try turning IBIS off.

Now this combination is very easy to use. Our company had this product a year ago. We used a combination of DJI RONIN-S, ZHIYUN and Steadicam, and the video shot was very good.

I would recommend to update the Weebills firmware, set it in medium or high capacity and auto tune the motors before rigging the minity so you can avoid the jittering.

Your gimbal has micro jitters :) I managed to get rid of them with auto tune, your setting, 2 screws for the camera and quick release plate. My setup has an A7s with Viltrox adapter to Canon 24-105 and focus motor. The total setup has around 2.3KG

Thanks for the video mate, I just only saw it and was about to create a video on how to balance this setup myself when I was trying to work it out myself. One thing I found I would change in your balance routine is before you balance the glidecam I would turn on the gimbal it will save you trying to rebalance the glidecam again since the camera is flopping around when the gimbal is off changing the very delicate balance of glidecams. I will might make the video though. Again thanks for creating the video!

Hey guys I have just mocked up an Arri mini/trinity with a big build bmpcc and Zhiyun 3S. And I managed to get a monitor on it. Note the 3S is heavy with more reach so you may have to add additional weight on the glidecam foot. I using the HD 4000. The monitor was attached around the HD pole with a 25mm ronin m clamp with 1/4” sockets I mounted a 15mm rod and a nato style clamp so it can flex up and down easily. A ball head would be messy. I also have the flycam galaxy 8-18kg vest! You really need it for this set up! It works an absolute dream. I must make a video!

Newell Barrett yeah it is actually really great. But some micro jitters was seen in some of the footage. I am currently testing with more motor power on the gimbal and looking at the crane 3s and the effect with larger motors.

When you add the vest and arm, you should be able to add a monitor and arm to it as well as save your back.

The issue is still that 45 degree arm that limits the gimbal movement and limits the smooth transitions. Irony being the older Zhiyun Crane Plus has less deviation and due to the 90 degree arms can do full rolls without having to change handle position.

So I tried to do this on the glidecam HD pro and the RS2 that just arrived.. but I cannot get the RS2 To balance with the glidecam. I'm using all the weight plates that came with the glidecam and its at full extension. But it's still way too top heavy.Is there a weight limit to how heavy the gimbal can be? Or do I just not have enough weights?

I made mine with ronin sc waiting on an attachment to attach the monitor to the ronin. Both my camera and the monitor is powered by an npf battery. I will make a video soon to show my complete set up

I’ve seen several demos on YT about this system. The question that jumps at me is what mode is the Weebill s in? The goal of a cameraman is to get footage of something specific. That would seem to be nearly impossible with this system. You can’t reach/hold the trigger to control the pan, you can’t reach the focus knob, etc etc etc. what exactly are you doing? Are you limited to orbiting/zoom in/out?

You use either PF mode( pan follow) or F mode (follow). With F mode you can also tilt the camera up and down when tilting the glide cam. It’s autofocus or manuell focus either with a higher aperture or just controlling the distance to your subject. You can even use someone to focus pull for you with weebills focusmotors and transmiter.

If you use a Zhiyun 3S you can use any standard manfrotto plate! This also means it can slap right into the glidecam plate with out any screwing around!

have you tried taking the head of the Glidecam off and just screwing the gimbal straight into the Glidecam? just thought it might reduce the weight a little. love your videos btw, keep up the great work!

I thinck the gymbal was not perfectly balanced in both setups. I can see a lot of mini jitters in both. Can you see them too or is just me?

DC Studio the gimbal is balanced perfectly and yes there will always be some micro jitters when dealing with electronic gimbal and walking along. Add some post stabilization at is smooth as butter.

@@PeterMakholm i own a zhyuin and use it with a gh5 with 12-35, NEVER vad micro jitters. But maibe because the lens and body is stabilised. Anyway, for me the jitters are unexpected. Maybe the setting of the motor are to high? I have seen a lot of crane 3s footage , none looked so jerky as yours.

Hi, I havent tried to ballance the crane 3 lab on the glidecam hd 2000. The combination of the crane 3 lab might be too big to ballance. I have both, I can give it a try and tell you if it is possible.

how much does that rig weigh? I have a ronin S, but I am somewhat afraid of putting a lot of pressure on the screw that goes from the glidecam plate to the gimbal due to the weight.

great setup! I have a Ronin S and would love to try to make a mini trinity myself. but my concerns are, that the Ronin S combined with a GH5 might be too front heavy with its 3.5 kg especially because its way longer than the weebill s. Any experiences or tips for a good glidecam? Cheers mate!

What happened to your Crane 3s? Did you return it? Would love to have seen this video feature the 3s and heavier rigs (10lbs+/4.5kg+) Also, noticing micro jitters in both set ups. Reason for that?

No I still have it, but It is too heavy for me, I don't need that big of a gimbal for the gh5. It is only for the S1H, but then I use the Glidecam. Yes there are som microjitters, and there will nearly always be that when walking with electronic gimbals. It is only when working with my glidecam only they don't apear.

I have one question with this set up, does it put some amount of stress on the bottom part of the Weebil? Coz if thats the case, at some point it will break. I’m not too sure how it work 😅

Yes. it will put a lot of stress on the buttom screw. It could portntialy break because this it now what it was designed to.

The whole point of the Trinity is the combo of the 'vest & arm' with the gimbal. You have no vest & arm and therefore you have no third axis of stabilization and now you're just carrying a ridiculously heavy gimbal...
