Put seam sealer over your welded floor joints, takes care of any pinholes and stops moisture rusting the joints. Great work and progress.

After doing bodywork for nearly 50 years it's nice to see someone start out trying rust repairs Mike, thanks for the content, if you still have some oxy/acetylene pick up some tobin bronze fluxed brazing rods and do the smaller hole repairs with that rather than mig, put the patch under the floor then a self tapper to hold and plug braze through the rust holes, hammer up from the underside then some seam sealer on the patch edges. Mig is great but the temperature of the welds makes the edges of the metal brittle. Can't wait for the world headquarters and shed mods.👍

Hi Captain ,the Romans made their mosaic floors with stone ,you've gone one better and done it in metal. Great job👍

When working overlapping sheet metal you can use self tapping screws to hold it in place. Remove them later and weld the hole if you choose to.

Hey Mike. I have to say, given what you had to work with, that floor came out very acceptable! No more Fred Flintstone action and it looks really solid. I think the patchwork gives the truck a nice lived-in look too!

Nobody said sheet metal is easy to work with my friend, but you’re doing a pretty good job! Your corner piece looks good Mike, it’s all about the effort you put into it!👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I usually tack weld it and take two hammers, one on top and one on the bottom and work the metal flat! Little by little Mike!

That truck is going to have one heck of a solid floor. My first attempt at rust repair involved an icy-acetylene torch and brazing rods. Definitely was a 50’ job with surfable waves. 🌊

I tried stuff like this, with much more expensive tools, and a lot less rusty materials, AND came out ALOT worse that you just did here. I'm so impressed with what you get out of basically nothing !

As another viewer commented, seam sealer will protect all the joints and seams. I would personally coat the entire interior with Lizard Skin or a similar protective material after rust proofing. Then use a durable rust proofing coating underneath. That will help to prevent and prolong the development of any metal cancer. I know a lot of metal working experts are scratching their heads. It's not like you have a sheet metal shop with all the equipment to do professional perfectionist sheet metal work! But for a person diving headfirst into sheet metal repairs, you are doing what you can do with what you have. 👍👍💪💪

You are my #1 content creator! The only one in my notifications. The only one i stop what I am doing to watch. You never explode in a tirade when things don't go as you hoped. I rewatch your videos with my grandson, so he can see an example of a person who just regroups and carries on. I deeply respect that you reuse and spend the minimum to create the maximum you can. Its what this country was built on, yet the art has been nearly lost. That may be my favorite part of this channel. I go about my projects much the same. One step at a time, figure it out as I go. So i love watching someone else do it. Bonus that you often explain that thought process! Thank you for sharing your projects with us. I cut up a hood from the junk yard to patch the floors in my 75 Toyota Truck. I overlapped my patches, used a flux core, my first time too. Good job man. I wish I would have started as young as you are.

Great job for a guy who claims he doesn't know what he's doing. Reminds me of the Mustie1 video when he was rustoring a VW and had it looking like Frankenstein with all the little patches. If I may suggest the following: When you are finished treat the area with tannic acid (it's what was used to stabilize the CS Hunley by the museum curators). Also spray the are with oil. Mustie1 likes Bar & Chain oil but, I've found Wool Wax to be superior and not messy. I sprayed my truck 2 years ago and it's still holding up. The oil gets into the tightest areas and stops rust entirely.

That Cordless SDS is like a Swiss Army Knife in your tool arsenal.

I use poster board to trace the rusty metal onto. Cut it out and trace that onto good flat metal. It’ll look weird flat, but it will be the shape you need when you warp it into place. But as long as you get it welded up, a can of undercoating hides a bunch of errors lol.

Back in my younger days......when I had no tools, knowledge, money or patience......we used "acquired" one way and stop 🛑 signs, self taping screws and Bondo on the seams..... Then covered everything in the old rug you found in Grandma's basement.....😂😂😂

Wow.. Truck is looking fantastic, don't worry about what it looks like as long as it's solid.. There will be many on here that don't understand that not everyone can afford to go out and spend several hundred dollars on new panels, you have done a great job of using the reclaimed panels.. I look forward to the next part...

Nice video, some advice and probably I will get some comments on it... If you are not a professional welder, use 309 welding material. It makes welding a lot easier. You can use it for jobs like this on carbon steel and Stainless Steel. It also has cleaning properties, so less pinholes and a better weld result . When steel has been calvinised also use 309 welding materials, at least to butter it up on the Sn side. This only counts for private or hobby projects of course like shown in this video . PS you're welds will never rust again.

I'd say you got a win. A good place to get some ideas for the stuff you're doing is Halfass Customs , Brent does some really good stuff and you might get some ideas that might help you. His attitude about the welding is kind of an easier deal and you don't have to worry about the ones that always want to complain about the job.Seam sealer does wonders

Capt''n, I do like the variety of stuff you get yourself into. It seems I never know what you will be up to next. I like that. I admire your attitude of figuring stuff out as you need to. One of these days, you need to invite Aaron up for some welding lessons. That would make for a fun video. It would also make repairing the dump box a bit easier. Keep having fun learning as you go.

Good morning Mike, 2:35 am here. The truck is coming along just fine.👌 I have a 1990 F250 Custom diesel that has less floor than yours that someone thought fiberglass would keep the water out. Maybe it did 10 years ago, but Fred Flintstone would certainly appreciate it now.😂 Watching you work is a delight, I may not repair things the way you do, but I enjoy seeing how you get there.😉 There is always more than one way to get a job done and you certainly find the most entertaining ways.😊 The truck looks great and the floor repair is absolutely a work of art. Can't wait to see the finished product.🤙
