You could’ve left the cork board as a whole & just put 7 white tapes going up & 5 tapes going horizontally...so in total you would have 35 lil squares & it would’ve looked soooo much more clean.

Can you use a canvas besides wood for the grid organizer?

you can try, but I don't think the elastic would hold up any papers against the canvas. Canvas tends to be a bit loose and not as sturdy, so there wouldn't be a base for the elastic to push against (hope this makes sense!)
