Man, I’m trying to learn how to get in ears setup with tracks for a 7 piece and this so far has been the most informative video! Gonna show the guys this one and hopefully figure out the small details for ins and outs for a smaller band! Thank you so much dude!
DAMN! I never thought I'd find someone else using the 18i20 like this! haha ... VERY few forums on it as a live mixer of sorts. This is SO cool man! I have the exact same setup. 4U W/ scarlett 18i20 and a mic split (just so all XLR inputs are on the font). You probably know this but here's how we use it! -- I route our wireless IEM's from the back of the scarlett (outputs 5/6 - 7/8 - 9/10 cuz we do stereo mixes)...Then I just tell FOH to send a sub mix of drums as a monitor mix, a sub mix instruemnts, and sub mix vocals (so FOH sends 3 simple unity mixes of those) ... then I use the app and the custom mix feature so all members can mix their own ears, or pair of members can agree like you said, but they have the mix control. We get click and tracks from the scarlett by just adding it to the custom mix as their "DAW playback" setting. The ONLY other thing we'll do sometimes is use the 8 channel splitter and simply send vocals to our ears so we don't even need to ask for that from FOH. SO cool you're using the scarlett man! ... also LOVE the way you used that ii minor chord in your reharm / arrangement of Ceilings! good stuff man if you're ever in Coloraod I'd love to come out!
Dude your setup is much cooler than mine 😂! Awesome stuff, man. The mic splitter definitely helps and also using the 18i20 as a mixer instead of an output for just backing tracks is next level. That’s actually the next step for me, I have a cheap rig build that I’m working on that uses the seismic audio splitter and the presonus 24 rack mixer.
For this setup, no. A mic splitter is a better option only if there is a separate rack mixer present. Both of those items also cost way more than the entire rack presented in the video.
