DIY Backpacking Meals - Easy-Cheap-Taste Good!!!!

After a lot of trial and error I have finally found some easy to make meals that taste good and are super cheap. If you can't stand spending $10-15 per meal you need to watch this video. These meals can be made for under $3 per meal and don't take any special equipment.

I typically cook in the jetboil but those bags look perfect for not getting the pot dirty on multi day adventures. I like to boil deer jerky with my pasta, it plumps back up almost like a really poorly cooked steak. Pretty dang good, could probably add jerky chunks right in your bags if you wanted to.

With long backcountry hunts, you definitely need some protein. You can put some jerky in there, which will hydrate some from the hot water. You can also bring packaged tuna and put it in the meal once its hydrated.

@@kyezek524 on my last hunt, I took pepperoni. It worked really well along with string cheese that I cut up and put in the meals.

@@SClivingOutdoors That's a good idea. I never thought of pepperoni before, which just gave me the idea to put my pronghorn summer sausage in some of my meals this year!

I just found your channel and checking out your videos! I’ll just take some ground venison and dehydrate it and add that to a package of the noodles and rice mixed together and of course trying it at home and adjusting to my liking . I’ve never tried any type of dehydrated meals because of price ✌🏻👍🇺🇸

Awesome info brother and they looked delicious! I agree I really like some of the name brand meals but it can get pricey if you’re buying them all the time. I’m definitely going to pick some of these meals up and give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

I take spam foil packs to go with mine .... cut it up and put in the bag then throw the water in it and enjoy

I use standard freezer bags. Simple meal: 3 packets instant grits + one 2.5oz packet Bacon pieces + 12oz boiling water Imitation Biscuits & Gravy: 1 packet Ramen broken up in small pieces (don't use seasoning packet) + 1/2 packet Pioneer Country Gravy + Bacon Pieces + 8oz Boiling Water Poor Mans Pad Thai: 1 packet Chili Ramen + 8oz boiling water + two 1oz peanut butter packets. Favorite cold breakfast: .75 cup Grape Nuts + .25 cup shredded Coconut + .25 cup NIDO (powdered milk) + 3 packets stevia + raisins + cold water, shake, instant milk & cereal

Interesting. I struggle putting into many carbs with my DIY meals. I also label the calories on the bag.

I remember you eating those on our elk hunt last year haha you can cook and then dehydrate some lean ground meat and throw that in when packing those meals and you have some easy protein added to the meal too 💪
