I have a short torso and long legs so I prefer pants and skirts to be mid rise instead of around my natural waist. That way my tops and bottoms are more in proportion with each other. Thank you for including measurements for hip so that I can make that the top of my skirt.

She doesn't owe you anything - it's not like you paid anything for all of her hard work so far. There are plenty of other free vids on YT about sewing A-line skirts or if you're really that desperate, try reading a book about it & figure it out for yourself..

I feel you could have much more followers if you showed the process of sewing it... because ALine skirt is more for beginners than for people who know how to sew..also the music is too loud at times and it's difficult to concentrate like that

The hemline should be curved, otherwise the side seam is longer than centre front.

Veo que el video es viejo, pero yo te contesto. Si debe de llevar curva en la sintura y abajo donde va el ruedo o vastilla como le llamen. L amento decir pero no estan bien las intruccions.

excellent teaching. just 2 questions. why add the 3.5 cm and with respect to the straight skirt and additional 1.2 cm seam allowance. at first I thought the 3.5 was the seam allowance.

It's "give allowance". Basically for when you sit down. When you make pants and skirts that are not loose, you need to allow give in the hip area for sitting and bending over. ^_^

Hi, my pattern doesn't look quite the same as yours, when i draw my lines from point w2h to w2lh it makes almost a straight line therefore when i add that small angle and draw the line to the full length, it looks bizarre. | | \

She didn't put any darts in hers. She just did the difference in the side seam.

Liv Kennett We don't have an A-line Skirt sewing tutorial as of yet. We are currently making a sewing tutorial for that. Expect to see that tutorial by the end of January(if nothing gets in the way lol). As for the pants tutorial, we will have a pattern/block making tutorial by mid-late February, and subsequent pants manipulation sewing tutorials afterwards (shorts, trousers, leggings etc).

Wait, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but: If you measure from the waist down, then add a separate piece for the waistband, wouldn't that make it too tall? The waistband and top of the main skirt are taking up the same space on a person's body. I think??

There are none. She's avoiding it by just putting the space difference in the side seam. This is the cheap and easy way to make skirts...

Heya BD :) Just wanted to ask- if I wanted to make a mini skirt that started from the hips rather than the waist, would I just need to live out the waist measurements or are there any major differences or adjustments I would need to make??

Hello, every one ((: just sharing-- i made a skirt using this pattern and its ok but not 100% ok.. i had to adjust especially on the hips beacause theres a big difference between my waist and hips.. when i followed the pattern completely (no adjustments) it ended up ill fitting.. so i had to adjust

no need to make a full pattern for the front or back..doing half of front and half of back will save you on paper. but if it is still not enough, paste another piece of paper to get the desired width

What's the purpouse of the little cuts you made around the pattern?

If you've sewn with commercial patterns, you've seen notches on each pattern piece. They are aligned with the pattern piece that will be joined to it. The cuts are used the same way. It ensures that the pieces are joined at exactly the right place. Transfer the cut marks to the fabric and make very small snips to be sure that you don't cut into the seam line.

lol ...all you showed is how to cut a piece of paper to a shape that looks like a very bad A-line skirt...This is not how "to make A-line skirt pattern from scratch". You are confusing beginners badly...In order to draft A-line skirt you have to start with a basic straight pencil skirt and modify it by slashing a pattern vertically to a dart's points and then by closing darts and spreading the pattern pieces.
