I have been making bath bombs for a few years now. I mix the dry and the wet separately and then add the citric acid...less risk of activating the acid. I also use a sifter to remove the chunks in the baking soda, starch, and acid. those are just a few things I have learned with experience. =)
I attempted to make bath bombs for the first time last night. they keep rising and was way to wet. I ruined 3 batches. used them to clean the sink drain. I now know it was the citric acid and to much water.
Cracking means it's most likely too dry. You may need to add more oil to it.. and use witch hazel or rubbing alcohol instead of water. Mix wet together and then mix all the dry except citric acid and then combine dry and wet together.. you can add more wet if needed. When it's wet enough to clump in a hand and drop without breaking then add the citric acid.. Mica powder works as coloring too Instead of liquid color
I just made my first bath bombs so easy and fun turned out perfect. Thank you so much. I did tweak it a little I used witch hazel instead of water and it was just fine.
It's kind of absurd the amount of money they'll charge for one of those at the mall... They really look super nice, Lindsay! And I love that you went for grapefruit, that scent is perfect :3
OMG! This was sooooo helpful. Everywhere else I looked and it said to let them dry IN the mold. I could never get them out of the molds, even if I prepped them with oil and corn starch. I have the same molds you do. I almost gave up until I watched your video last night. I made 5 batches and they all turned out perfect! Thank you so much!
Hi Lindsay, I have always wondered how bath bombs were made - now I know. I can't take a bath now due to ill health but a funny story I was once given a bath bomb from a friend as a present and it smelt amazing and there were dried flowers on the outside. It was all great I ran the water and it started to fizz up and down the bath like they are supposed to do. I got into the bath and realised that there were a lot more dried flowers than was on the top. I tried relaxing but I cont because it seems that this particular bomb had died flowers throughout the bomb and when I stood up my body was just a scattering if dried flowers and I ended up having a shower to remove all the dried flowers LOL. But that would not stop me making bath bombs though, thank you Lindsay for showing us crafters how. :O)
Oh man, I've seen bath bombs like that before, and I always wondered how anyone could bear to bathe with them! I would feel like I was in an unwashed tub with lawn clippings in it! :P
Wow! I had no idea Saran Wrap could be used for shrink wrap 🤯 I mean reactive to heat? And I so wish we had smell-o-vision🤪 I WISH I’d thought of this before Christmas LOL. Thank you for sharing this!!
In case you're interested, you can also use it to mummify things at halloween. Check out monster tutorials for how to do that!!! Sorry shouldn't give another channel a plug on here.
Hi Lindsay. I am sure you are getting many tips. Here is another one. I mix all of my ingredients but hold out my citric acid till after everything else is mixed (wet & dry) and then stir in the citric acid, the wet ingredients is all mixed in & don't have to worry setting off the citric acid. I find I have much fizzier bombs. love your video :)
I only use good oils, baby oil is made of mineral oil and petrolium, jelly,,, thats gasoline leftovers.. I use castor oil jojoba oil coconut oil, and do no harm
Great video but food coloring can stain your skin and bathtub so it is actually alot safer, in terms of not turning differrent colors, to use soap dye.
Mark Shepard I was wondering about using the food coloring and exactly how safe for the skin and tub it would be. Thank you for suggesting the use of the soap dyes. Using soap dye definitely makes more sense. Looking forward to making some bath bombs and will definitely use the soap dye instead. Thanks Mark!
I use soap dye and they turn out very vibrant just mix it in the water so that you can actually see the color. I made some following a different video and this tutorial looks a whole lot better.
This is going to be a priority video for my daughters! lol! The exchanged bath bombs for the holidays, so I think DIY might be right up their interest level! Great video and always something new from you - brilliant! :)
Unfortunately, yes - one of my daughters bought the other a hefty set from the local Lush store and I was floored at the cost. And, I don't know what Lush uses or what vendors they buy from, so the DIY is very appealing to me for the whole, "I know what went into it," aspect. Also, some of those storebought one's contain elements that can gum up a sump pump, if you aren't careful. That happened to us a few years back and I had to clean out the whole pump because of a glittery goop that got stuck. Now, _NO glitter bath bombs, EVER!!_ (said in the voice of Faye Dunaway) lol! :)
I like using powder eyeshadow sometimes for color and shimmer . . I sometimes dry my bombs in a warm oven. . Much less cracking. . Thanks for the video . . Nice bombs!
Oh since I've found you Lindsey, I watch you all the time. It's appreciated so much for all the projects n ideas you share. It really helps in this time, as these are so economically friendly. Thank you very much, n hope this year is great for you n family.
Good job. I make bath bombs often . I enjoy it because it relaxes me. Your texture is suppose to feel like wet sand. If your bombs fall a part dont worry, just put your mixture back in in the bowl and spritz it with alcohol 2 make it more wet. Also, they dont require 48 hrs to dry. Lol
if you use loose petals, you can hide them inside the bath bomb during the molding process so spring forth out of nowhere when you put them in the bath
I had wanted to make bath bombs but was intimidated, so thank you for the easy tutorial! :D I also learned you can use regular saran wrap as shrink wrap :O Thanks!
I didn’t realize they would be so easy and have such simple ingredients. I’d love to have some friends over and spend the day making these. I’ll have to try the shrink wrap tip with homemade soap. I’d use a hair dryer, not a heat gun, and hope it doesn’t melt the soap! The dried flowers in the packaging looks so cute. I press flowers in the microwave all the time thanks to your flower pressing video. Thanks! :)
Thank you so much for doing this Lindsay. I am a bath bomb freak, knowing how to make them myself will actually save me a ton of money :). I had no idea they were so easy. I did have one question about this. Would you be able to use essential oils (like lavender or Eucalyptus) in this recipe in the same amounts you used for your fragrance or would an adjustment have to be made?
aislinrose1 I have 10 minutes left of the ad, so I haven't seen Lindsay's recipe, but I have made bath bombs for years. Eucalyptus is an oil I would use sparingly or not at all in bath bombs UNLESS you are using them as a foot soak only. For lavender I use about 20 to 25 drops in a cup of baking soda, and 1/2 cup of citric acid recipe. I spray with witch hazel to get it to bind. Check your essential oils for warnings of skin irritation before using in bath bombs. Peppermint and private parts don't mix well.
Wow .. Had no idea it is that easy. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! I've learned so much from You, since I found your channel. Thank You so much for sharing w/ us & Teaching Us. I Wish You & Your Family Happy Holidays & a Wonderful 2018. 🤗😊
I make them too but I also make geode one's just put some of the the Epsom saltit another bowl and color it whatever colors you want or a mixture of colors and add it to the center before adding the other half or just make half bombs they look amazing and you can also make the bombs with different colors just layer and swirl the colors together how ever you like & you can also put brown or raw sugar in your bomb it really soften's the skin I just love making them!! 😁
I LOVE & collect Geode's. What a wonderful idea. I haven't made any bath bombs yet but this video alone is the bomb and my fav watch by far. I am going to be making my first bath today and will try geode's next. Thanks Lindsay & Mz Pinkeyez.
That is great, I tried a DIY simple BATH BOMB, love it to make it myself, I drop many ORANGE essential oil into it, so it smells Amazing, I used some brand bought on amazon, like Young Living, ISUDA, Now. Thank you for your sharing
My bath bombs colours fade and they have no fizz overtime - how do I make them last longer? (They're packaged with plastic and wrappings in a box) Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, citric acid, sodium sulfare, PEG400, Essential Oils, Shea butter and Oleyl Esters. (They're manufactured from alibaba)
If you don’t have citric acid, you can use lemon juice it works just ask good but just be careful on how much you add, maybe 1/4 cups and go from there
I really like this video but you talk so Quick that's not normal! I really get the feeling being rushed because of it. Not very nice if you watch this video before going to sleeo
Has anyone started to make hand made bath bombs and sell them? I really would like some feedback from others experience as i am willing to start a small business.
I was tryin to figure out why my 2 batch of bathbombs was like..metling goin like flat before completely dryin or they would fall apart when I try to Unwrap them to use them...so maybe I was using to much water then?
This is the BEST bath bomb tutorial by far!!! I have watched several a while back and my daughter and I have tried on three different occasions with depressing results. We have NEVER been able to get the 2 sides to stick together, and the last time we have no idea what went wrong but it was too wet and kept expanding. So....next time my daughter is here we are going to try your recipe and directions and see what happens....I'm even going to get the metal molds that you have instead of using the plastic ones we have. Wish me luck...lol :) Hugs...Janie
This looks like a super fun project!!! Could you use liquid flavoring for the scent?? I don't have a craft store close to me and I can't order online. Also could you use those empty plastic easter eggs?? I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas 🎄 Happy Crafting from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️Marie
Thanks so much for this. After watching numerous DIYs for bombs, yours was the most clear and concise. I also liked your tips on some of the mishaps you came across. Actually looking forward to trying these now :)
Hi, I've just found your video and I'm going to use your recipe for my first attempt at making bath bombs. J have a question...do you have to add the Epsom salts?
I used the metal molds and had trouble removing the bombs when they were finished. I have found the plastic molds to be more forgiving and easier to work with.
Lucy Pumkinjack IKR! I paid a lot of money for the those molds when the 3.21$ plastic ones from hobby lobby work best . I don’t even use the expensive ones
What's the point of a bath bomb? Aroma? Why do you have to do all that? Can't you just add the smelly oil to the bath? Or is it like a fun toy that reacts with the water?
Do you think I could substitute the essential oil for more Baby oil? I am very sensitive to strong smells and essential oils give me instant headaches 😬
I hat it when that happens, two in a row the tooth cutting strip came off, I like this one with a slider a lot. I just used scissors when the others came off though, not ideal but it works.
They are definitely drying out. If you’re going to make the batch ahead of time, I suggest leaving the citric acid out of the dry mix and adding it in in small batches when you mold them. Basically the longer the citric acid sits in the mix, the quicker it dries up.
Hi , thanks, is my favourite bath bom video ... but can you please tell me what went wrong . I followed the recipe exactly and even waited to mix in citric acid last. However my bath bombs have a flat dent on the bottom from drying. They didn’t dry dry round . It seems like whatever moisture was in the bath bomb sunk to the bottom . Would you recommend not adding the coconut oil ?
I was looking for the ice cram cup source in comments but didn’t see it. Please help. Also, have you packaged these in paper instead of plastic? Looking to keep it natural. Thanks!
oh you taking that dropper cap out of the bottle with your hands brings back memories... i wear gloves and scissors to do that now :'D sore eyes and a smell that wont come off your hands lol. thanks for sharing your recipe
Hello. I love ur video tutorial. It wad the most easiest one I've viewed. And I actually just tried it lol. But I do have a question tho.... i can't get one hald of mold to come loose. What other way a can release it? I tried tapping it the a silver spoon but to no avail 😏.
