Great video. Thank you for mentioning the little "box" on the negative terminal cable. Not finding one on my 2010 mini spared me the hassle of getting the new battery registered. Phew! Cheers, RG.

without that plastic door on the cover water can get in on top of the battery I re hinged my with Black tape and it held pretty good "cheap plastic hinges" I was looking for a battery on Advanced auto and they all said they needed to be Programed, mine doesn't have that box on the cable so thanks for Clarifying that. great and easy to understand.

In one of the coders i was playing with, it shows the type of battery that is in the car with a size rating and a type. This was active even though i definitely do not have IBS. So you might not need to code the car with the new battery if you don't have IBS, but it might be a good idea to still set the battery size and type in case that modifies the charging parameters. (Lead acid and AGM have different charging characteristics. If you charge an AGM with a lead acid charge curve, it won't get as full as if it charge it with the right voltage curve. So maybe not critical, but probably worthwhile if you can get a coder adapter and app for cheap enough.

FYI should run a couple of small wires to those terminals to the new battery then disconnect the old battery the floor kick module on the passenger side my scramble if disconnect total from power it's happened to me once and had to get it reprogrammed a bunch of lights would work windows wouldn't work etc just a FYI

What would happen if you didn’t register a Mini or BMW that does have IBS? Reduced battery life?

So you mentioned the battery registration box or extra cable. Would that only be on the negative side?

Is it safe to assume that this overall procedure will work for the 2013 mini roadster? (Aside from the variety requiring a battery registration)
