That 2k clear coat is so good, I did a project bike for my nephew and it looks great with it. The only hard thing was not having dust land on it when it dried.
I’m working on a comfort bike inspired by your Specialized build. I started the project last summer and I’m painting now in 2024. I will definitely use that clear coat. Channels like you’re have been a great inspiration for me, thank you 👍
I felt like a star dad for letting my daughter pick out new grips, pedals, and bell. You leveled up big time. Great video. Seems much more doable than I’d thought.
Bro you nailed this so hard. It looks amazing. Now sure, it's not perfect, but it's a kid's bike, and it's more than good enough. I bet she loved it. I might have to do one myself. Looks easy enough (famous last words lol)
I painted my old Trek 3900 gravel conversion bike recently and came across the same issues as in the video. The spots underneath the paint are impossible to get rid of without completely stripping the old stuff, and getting rid of light spots on the clear coat was also very hard and I ended up doing about 4 coats and still not completely succeeding. The little precal ended very nice though with the bright and shiny paint, which I think works better with the Spray max.
yeah I've been using the 2 part clear for a couple of years now, love it. Also I've personally believe the primer isn't really needed if using the Rust-Oleum "paint and primer in one" product.
@@fritolays406 I'm usually a big proponent of primer, even with those 2in1 paints, but that's if you're painting on bare metal. Scuffing the surface should be good enough for those 2in1s.
Awesome job man. Can't wait for the build video. My daughter is about to grow out of her 20" hardtail. Curious as to what you chose for your son? Don't know that I want to spring for the full squish yet. Would love for her to get away from the grip shift though.
looks amazing! Does the Clearcoat dry hard like an enamel? Does it cover up the decals relatively nicely? I wonder how it would fare on bike restoration/preservation applications. Would love to put some of that on my 83' stumpjumper?
That didn’t even cross my mind. It’s just hobby store vinyl for the Cricut cutter. It’s been a couple of weeks and it still looks good. Will update if anything changes
Use Oracle permanent vinyl - in the USA, Micheal's has it in almost any colour you would want, even metallics. I've used it with the 2 part Spraymax epoxy clear coat and the vinyl does not wrinkle. Avoid printable vinyl; that wrinkles! I have done inkjet printable vinyl but you have to spray the vinyl with a very light coat of the 2k clear and let it dry for a couple of hours before applying your stickers to the frame.
Nice job! I wonder why you'll go with a grip shifter again. My own daughter and all the other kids in our group found trigger shifters much easier to handle.
@@TheBikeSauce For my daughter it was the other way round. Turning the grip was too hard but pressing the shift paddle was something she could do without issues.
Looks really good. And thanks for mentioning the non programming of pink. We did the same and our daughter ended up with a serious pink phase anyway. 😉. But it’s now black, so…
people make too much of a deal out that anyway. He shouldn't have even had to mention that but, but you'll get the inevitable losers saying he's trying to force her to be a girl or gender assuming or something stupid like that. It gotten to the point where I'm surprised people don't get backlash from doing baby gender reveals using the pink or blue colors.
Awesome work! Thanks for sharing =) I just reworked a Trek Farley fat bike with spray.bike paint and the 2k clearcoat. Overall, it turned out really well, but after the clearcoat, I ended up needing to do a significant amount of polishing with Maguires in order to remove the orange peel. Did you experience any of this? From the video, the results look amazing! I wonder if I didn’t prep things correctly? This was only my first bike paint job, so I have another 10 or so more to do before I catch up with you 🫠
I think if you would have sanded the first coat of paint and hit it again with a second coat , you wouldn’t have a textured paint job. The clear clear coat looks good though . Maybe fine sand the clear coat and buff but i think that’s a lil much for a bike that’s not show bike. Over all i give you an A.
Do you powder coating elitists ever give a thought the reason people go this route is because they wanna keep the cost down? 😂 I mean my brand new bike with powder coat chips easily so why waste money if it isn't scratch or chip proof?
Please make sure you wear a paint suit with this product. Isocyanates can enter through your skin, you want to be fully covered head to toe. It's a great product, but extremely toxic.
If you were working with it everyday, you should protect yourself for sure. There are more toxins in our food, water, and air than that little bit of overspray.
