When "leveling" the ground out it was good to see you removing the ridges. I would have also shaped the ground so that there was a nominal fall away from the shed. Then any water will flow along the top of the soil rather than pond and form a soft spot. The plate compactor is fairly light so 3 passes would be quite low especially if you were going to place concrete. I assume that you will be using type 1 for your patio. I would place it in at least two layers if it is 150mm thick.
Should the stakes holding the wood in place be on the 'outside' of the planks.? Also do you find the handle of the compactor a bit too low so that you have to stoop a little to push it about.. I did. Let's hope part 4 is as quick coming out as part 3 was 👍👍
Hi there. I wouldn't personally put the stakes on the outside but it's obviously up to the individual. If you were putting up a fence would you put the posts on the outside or the inside? Same principle I think? I can't see it making any difference structurally, I think it's just aesthetics tbh. However, each to their own. Yes, the compactor is too low and I wish the handle was longer. However, for the small area in question my back got away with it. For a larger area though I might consider fabricating something and I've already made a mental note. Best wishes, Des
@@21stcenturycaveman33 if the stakes were on the grass side they would also make mowing awkward as you wouldnt have the straight edge of the board to run the mower or strimmer up to. Also on the inside of the gravel you can cover the tops of the stakes with gravel to hide them if cut a little short.
