Learn how to build your own DIY stage with pickle buckets! In this short video I show you how to build a stage using 5 gallon paint buckets and where you can find the buckets cheap.
Update: If you need even more stability, just fill the buckets with water.
These risers are solid and would work well as a DIY church stage, DIY School Stage, or even as a DIY Drum Riser.
If you have any question let me know in the comment section and I'll do my best to help you out.

Nice job with the video and the stage. I'm going to make one just for my kids. They love to sing and act and a stage would really enhance their act. :)

how much weight can it take. im using heavy duty equipment on it(truss, line array etc) will it be able to hold this? i dont feel like buying/renting an expensive stage if i can do this... great build!
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 4 года назад
It's definitely not going to be rated like a professional stage would be. Depending on your gear though I do think it would hold up pretty well. If you need more support you could always add more buckets underneath. Give it a shot and if you have any doubts then leave it out.

I don't know exactly but it is very sturdy. Filling the buckets with water made the risers a lot more stable too.

Thanks for the great video! Wondering - at the end you mentioned regretting making 4x4’ sections, due to transportability. I may be misunderstanding - I think you mentioned wishing you had made 8x4’ sections. Could you elaborate?
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic Год назад
Hey Jason, Thanks for watching the video. My intention with the 4'by4' was that I could bring it out into the world and use it for shows. The reality is, the decks are still too big to fit in my SUV. (Ford Edge) Looking back, I probably would have just kept it as a 4' by 8' platform. Either way would be fine really. the smaller decks are easier to move around for sure. Still a great little stage after all of these years. Good luck!

@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 5 лет назад
Mike Stein if you have a jigsaw I’m sure that would be fine for cutting the circles. The root zip is just faster. I would use the circles though as they do add a lot of support.

@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 4 года назад
If you can squeeze all of your gear onto a 4'by8' riser then I would say yes. I originally got the inspiration from another RU-vid video where a guy made a drum riser like this and I think it was even smaller.

Hello! I was wondering if you had to glue, drill anything to make the buckets stay?
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 6 лет назад
Caroline McDowell The bucket lids are mounted to the deck using 2 wood spacers. One above the lid and one below the lid. These are all secured using drywall screws. I used 4 screws on each spacer. The buckets themselves just snap into the lids and are very secure.

Where can you get a pickle buckets are they wanting for three dollars
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 3 года назад
In my area, we have a restaurant chain called "Firehouse Subs" and they sell the 5-gallon buckets that their pickles come in for $3.00 each. It's actually a donation to their charity. If you need buckets, you can also do a search on the Facebook marketplace and you may get lucky. I've heard of people getting a bunch of them for free through Facebook. Good luck!

How did you keep the screws attaching the lid to the base from not poking through the top?
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 3 года назад
I think I just used 1" screws. It went through the spacer (1/2"), the bucket lid (-1/4"ish), and into the platform (3/4"". You can see that at this point 03:27

would you give me the measurements and materials you used,thanks
@fitzmagic
@fitzmagic 4 года назад
It's made from 3/4" plywood cut into 4' by 4' squares. If I built it over again, I would have just kept the sheet of plywood 4' by 8'. The supports on the sides are made from 2"by3"s and are just cut to fit the plywood. Last, the circles are cut from 1/2" plywood and they are cut to fit into the recess on the lids. I believe it was about 11.5". I hope that helps.
