I'm saving those Clear Talenti Ice Cream containers to use for paint too. We're addicted to that ice cream now. Plus they are too damn pretty to throw in the recycle bin. Still figuring out what else I can use them for. GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE 😄

OMG I can’t stop eating this stuff! Luckily the Kroger sale that made them $3 iis over with. I am using them to keep screws and hardware in but I know there are more uses! I also keep my DIY soft wax in them and keep snacks and fruit when I go out places. I have so many of them it shows my Talenti Addiction. The coconut chocolate chip almond is my favorite. I eat mostly that one and a vanilla and a coconut here and there. I am SO bad! I have been eating one a day and have not gained weight and that is just an invitation to me! Where IS the down side? Is just all green lights over here!

Hi, I love your honesty and you clear informations. Get a question: can i use marble dust instead? Best wishes. I am a subscriber and happy to watch new and old videos of you.

Well I totally missed this when you posted it. People make chalk paint out of lots of things actually. I you used marble dust, I'd love to know how it turned out!

P.S.: Here's a (big) question/theme: there is a technology for "sucking" CO2 from the atmosphere and stored it in calcium carbonate pellets. But they burry those pellets. Hmm, I wonder if it can be used somehow ... for a good & useful purpose ... instead of just burry it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XHX9pmQ6m_s.html

Mixing technique is similar to making a flaky pie crust but more elbow grease.

Hi there thanks for the video. Can we write with chalk on this paint?

Wow. I was reading about calcium carbonate, and how they are developing technology to capture carbon dioxide from our polluted air and injecting it into concrete. It makes the concrete much harder also. Ok Doll, great ideas goin on here!

Hi great video. Can you use this on fabric?
@NashvilleRestoration
@NashvilleRestoration 3 года назад
You can use it as much as any other chalk paint. I actually recommend using regular satin finish latex paint. Chalk paint has to be sealed and if you seal most fabrics, it looks more like leather of or like something bad happened to it.If you have stains or want o make a huge color change, you can use primer first. Here is a video on how to do that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WWfCSY1PwZY.html&lc=UgxwxWfNp2g3WKmO3954AaABAg

I used a different type of lime and it left the surface very rough and grainy. Should i sand & try another coat or just mix a new batch with proper lime?

Thanks for the tutorial, I also make my own chalk paint using calcium carbonate, I use mine even after several days, just add a touch of water, blend and you are good to go. You can use any type of paint to mix this but anything glossier than satin just kind of defeats the purpose and you are spending good money for nothing..

I really like the idea of pre-diluting the lime first but I also wonder if making the clay come together like that may make it react on the 3rd day. I had the idea of using a coffee grinder to be absolutely sure I only get the finest of chalk powder when I mix my first batch. I've been procrastinating because I haven't found a recipe that has inspired me like this one. Because you are sharing how important these little tips are to you. These other channels seem like they want to make it "so easy" and that's why we all want to use it right? But that's an assumption. We want to make it right and why not use a mixer or dilute or even grind further? I bought mine was quite speedy $12 for organic digestible lime. 2lbs which was same price at the time than some 1lb non organic brands. Thank you for sharing a recipe I feel I can finally trust! (With my previous organic lime lol) ya I'm kinda crazy bout it 🤡

I have not had any problems keeping this paint for a couple months. If you have ever made chalk paint with plaster of paris, this is a totally different ball game. It doesn't change when it's stored for a few months. Past that I am not sure butr I am about to experiment.

You can also mould it into attractive crafts if you add wheat powder to it.

Was this flat or satin?

The minerals used here, are being used as "fillers" as they referred to in the paint and coatings industry. Paint is made of binders (glue), pigments, solvents (water or spirits) and lastly but mostly only found in house paints - "fillers". They are minerals usually found in clays, hence the misleading paint and marketing term "ceramic" or even more laughable "mineral paint" LOL They are mostly used in place of our aforementioned quality ingredients. These minerals are ALWAYS a DETRIMENT to the coating. Their presence requires the addition of surfactants (soap) to allow the coating to leave a brush or roller. With the addition of soap comes the need for defoamers, so the paint doesn't suds up when its being mixed. Important to understand house paints (architectural coatings) only ever JUST enough binder in them to do the very specific job they are intended for. Adding a bunch of powders to an architectural paint will guarantee a lousy performing paint that has little, if any moisture or chemical resistance.

BTW you definitely want to be aware of how your effecting the PH as you add things like lime as it will have a strong effect on how, or if it, polymerizes.

I saw another video where someone made one step paint with 3.ingredients. Equal parts latex , Primer and waterbased polyutherane , and the same brand of calciumcarbonade you used. She made a lot and it stayed good for a long time, maybe an idea. I live in Europe and latex is just latex. We don,t have flat, satin or eggshell, isn,t that strange.Bye!

I really don't think you need that much calcium carbonate, 1/2 cup to 1/4 cup water for a quart of paint is fine.
