In this video I show you my home built can storage rack. This rack is built to hold 150 cans total. The rack is 32 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and 3.5 inches tall. You can hold about 30 cans on each shelf you build. They are stack-able and allow you store your cans in a 'first in - first out' method for easy tracking. Once you take a can from the front of the rack and use it, it allows you to have room to restock the cans in the future. All this project cost around $100 to build. It is super heavy duty and expandable.

This is a great idea. But I am going to make these trays and just sit them on existing shelves instead of mounting them to the wall. Thanks for the video

That should work great, Don!

Tray is excellent idea, can be placed anywhere or inside another container.

Great vid. I am going to amend it by reversing the angle and make it a double tiered system, where the can drops down fifo. I will just use 2 little wedges at the end to make a space for the can to drop down.
@snoww2009
@snoww2009 Год назад
Yes, that's what I am thinking, but I think with double tier, you need more rows if you have many different type of can foods, otherwise you will be mixing them in the same rows.

Fantastic system🤗

This is very nice. I will probably make something similar but will make the width adjustable so it can accommodate cans of different sizes. To make it adjustable, I am thinking of using steel/aluminum angle or flat bar. They are more rigid than drywall corners. I think I only need to secure both ends and make both ends adjustable.

The problem with this setup is that you lose a lot of space because you need to reach the rows at the back. I haven't found a good solution for myself yet. I have a lot of different sizes of cans including rectangular ones or big jars for example.

Great video! Very well explained. Just what I was looking for. Thanks! One question, for your tracks, how long do they come? The one you showed was much shorter than on your shelves. Did you simply put several together because I didn’t notice any lines or gaps?

Been looking for a version of the "can system" that does hold 100 cans in each line. My shelves are set up similar to a library so I can restock from between the shelves. Thanks.

I notice that there is space above the cans on most rows. What happens if you double stack them? Do they still fall in place? I only ask because some cases come in packs of 12 and I wouldn't want to use two rows for the same type of can.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 3 года назад
Yes, you can double stack the cans with the spacing that I have allowing for much more storage! It seems to work well. I didn't even think of that so thanks for your comment!

Wasting a lot of vertical space. I'd make the shelves closer together.

Pretty slick set up. I've been looking to do this as well. I wonder, do you think you could do ONE track that could hold TWO cans side by side of say tuna and those 12.5oz. cans of chicken or roast beef? Those cans are not so tall, but they are wide. Thanks and keep up the great work.

The back 2x4 will be the same length as your slanted boards.

Youd just have a different row for each different item. It seems to work well for my needs. It sure is customizable do don't feel you have to stick to my exact plans, change it up how you want! :)
