That’s awesome, there’s so many elements that can be brought together to make a greenhouse growing experience much easier. Glad you found the channel helpful to your planning design! Thanks for sticking around and checking out all the videos we share!
Man I gotta say your content really drives me I have slacked on giving you the love you deserve! Thank to some of your compost heating tips my plants are still living from this past winter..also I have adopted a lot of the as long as it works methods and Although not pretty as yours yet it makes me happy. Good to see your passions are deep like my own
Thank you! We don’t have the prettiest greenhouse or property, but it’s highly functional especially in today economy. We could survive off grid all summer easily. The passion runs deep my friend and we’re growing and sharing everything we can, thanks again for commenting and sharing!
@@Earthdwellershomestead that’s all that matters as long as things work and do what they’re supposed to do. The rest will fall into place especially when you’re naturally good at making them work. Good job on everything you do man keep it up.
Hi. I've been collecting things like heavy shower curtains to build a greenhouse 😅 I'm in Florida and 20s has been the coldest temps I've had collards n cabbage don't mind 😊 BUT this weird rain and odd a shy stuff falling from the sky has me figuring out how to cover the gardens....love your info. I'll say again this info.is crucial to everyone
Thank you!! Best of luck with your growing and experimenting, different climates call for different measures. Gathering all info you can and molding it to your specific situation is key. Thanks again!
We have a 20x40 single walled high tunnel and are experimenting by putting a 14x30 tunnel inside of it. There is anywhere from a one to five foot gap between the two layers. There is enough room to walk between the two. The results have been fantastic so far. Since it's hard to vent a tunnel in a tunnel the idea is to make the inner tunnel removable in the summer so it doesn't get to hot.
What zone are you in ? That was my thought behind this but the possibility of putting two together was achievable like your saying but we went with a low headspace and had to reinforce for heavy snow leading me to construct it the way I did, also $$ was the major factor in our decision. This was paid with our farmers market costing around 1,500-1,600$, I’m sure your single greenhouse was twice the cost of ours. Certainly not saying anything bad about your design, just that ours was “as cheap and possible” thanks for sharing your experience!
Syracuse NY Zone 5 also heavy snow 110's average ( not the last three years) We also have a farmers friend 40' cat tunnel and I bought a 10x20 Chinese made tunnel from amazon for $109 and we're trying that inside too. Since the amazon tunnel is protected by the outer tunnel it doesn't matter how flimsy it is. @@Earthdwellershomestead
Building an off grid GH. Thanks for sharing what you shared. I did watch/listen to your entire CHEAP DOUBLE LAYER GREENHOUSE - WHY & HOW offering and I liked and subscribed to support your time and energy sharing. The info I need will be elsewhere. Thank you. I like your GH and hope you can get underground ASAP.
best of luck on your build! I have been saving windows for my sunken greenhouse build, there's enough for 30-40' of wall so far. thank you for the support!
Good video, thx. I build a double ploy hoop house and inflate the two layers with a blower fan. However rather than having the fan run 24/7, I installed a scupper from a boat, bought of Amazon, as a check valve and a pressure switch that controls the fan. When 2” WC is reached, the switch shuts the fan off until the pressure between the two layers drops enough to turn the fan back on. There is no noticeable deflation in the poly and the fan only runs about 6 hours / day rather than 24. 👍
Is there an older video covering the construction? It’s hard to see through the inner poly. Sounds like cattle panels support the outer layer, but what helps the cattle panels retain their shape (or maintain their distance to the inner poly)? If there isn’t a construction video maybe a tour of two layer build… that would be awesome follow to this one.
Yes I have to organize a play list of the build of this greenhouse the videos constructing this are old and buried in our video files. I will work on assigning them a playlist and categorizing them today! Thanks for checking this out!
Thanks, just wanted to see what kind of temps you faced. Double layer blown greenhouses are super cool I just wanted to break down the cost and how to cut around using electricity to fill the gap off our experience.
I’ve seen some people insulate the north side (styrofoam sheets that bend to the contour) or even build a short back wall as thermal mass and either insulate on the outside or build up the dirt behind it. You’d probably have to re-bend the supports to fit onto a wall on the north side.
Yes the next sunken greenhouse is going to have a single southern transparent wall, I’ve been collecting double glass insulated windows for that project, I’ve got about 20 feet of 6foot tall wall of windows collected so far. Great input and thank you!
Nice video. We are putting up our second 12x50 hoophouse today. It will be double layered also. We are going to add another layer of poly to our first one as well. I’m more curious on the heating side. I’ve seen everything from compost heating all the way from a guy digging an 8’ trench in the ground and moving air with a blower from it to move the grounds 50 deg heat through the space. How are you using your compost to heat the gh? Thanks!
That all sounds like stuff we do here on the Channel, thanks for the comment! I would point you to our compost heating playlist “Jean pain compost heating” thanks again
Not enough information for me. I appreciate what you have done and your sharing. I am putting together a double layered greenhouse as well. How much space is there between your layers of Poly? Is your outside layer of poly under or over the stabilizing cattle panel? What creates/allows space between your poly layers giving extra insulation? Thank you.
I stated that we’ve got an air gap between polys of around 6 inches and small points up to 8 inches. I’m not sure if you just didn’t watch more that a minute or so of the video which is fine but I shared that we built a greenhouse and then we built a layer over it and placed cattle panels on that frame, sealing it with the second poly.
The is is the best video I have of the double layer DIY CHEAP 52' Winter Greenhouse Double Poly - Trapped Air Insulating Our FREE Heat - Zone 5a/4b ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tLrOK-uqTM8.html
What if you were to take the warm air from your compost pile and blow it between the poly. Would that insulate the greenhouse better or worse than what you are doing now?
Thought about it and decided against. I will just use the heat from inside to warm the outer layer or the exchanging layer. Only because the composts main purpose is to heat the inside and thermal mass and it wouldn’t heat the greenhouse nearly as effectively if it was only blowing around the outside shell. Great question.
I am still a little confused. If you have 2 layers of poly are they both on the inside and did you put air in them and seal them up while keeping them separated.
We have a solid frame we built and attached cattle panels to, holding the second poly tight. We have a lot of heavy snow in winter and strong wind paired with negative temps.
Am i the only one that thinks having a fan do all that work is just plain dumb?.. Just build it out so you don't have such an inefficient system. Takes the sustainability out of the whole operation doing something as superfluous as that which would be fixed with proper engineering.
@@Earthdwellershomestead Just put a proper bridging at the correct intervals in the double pane system and it will ensure that that R-value is sustained in the operation.
