I saw a tip about getting the clay out of the molds without distorting or damaging them.. put them in the freezer for a bit and the clay just pops right out...

Use a chippy brush for ornate pieces. The brush gets down in there where others won't. Before adding black or white wax, add a layer of clear first . Makes the white and black wax move easier and will wipe back and give you more control. Bohemian Blue is a fabulous color. Probably the prettiest color I've ever seen!

Cooking spray...who knew?! lol I love all my molds but there are some that just won't cooperate. I love all the fancy scroll wk, but it's so frustrating when things don't work out. I've even been using my hot glue gun with a sm tip more often. That helps a lot, but I'll definitely give the oil a try! I made a bunch of ornaments similar to yours last yr. They're fun to make & look so beautiful

PS: if you water the paint down a bit, so it becomes more liquid it is easier to get the first color coat of paint in all the noocks of the details and then drybrushing over it with regular thick paint works well for me!

You definitely want to pretty much always use clear wax or a water based top coat before using any colored waxes especially on chalk paint or clay paint. Chalk & Clay based paints are super porous and even if you only leave the colored wax on for split seconds, the paint is still going to soak up a lot of the pigment in the wax. You were rubbing quite a bit to take off the excess wax & you should never have to work that hard to remove or manipulate your colored waxes. Sealing the paint first with either the clear wax or a water based top coat give you so much more freedom while using your colored waxes.

In regards to using clear wax before using dark wax; not only can you wipe away the dark wax more easily but you can add a little clear wax to your wiping cloth and use as an eraser to remove “heavy handed” dark wax application! This only works with clear wax UNDER the dark wax. Loved these ornaments and thanks for sharing!

Can anyone recommend waxes to be found online? I'm in Switzerland, and local shops have no idea what I'm talking about - all they have is shoe or table wax...

Do you access to Pentart supplies? They’re a Hungary company. They will have patinas you can use. There’s a few Eastern European craft channels that use only Pentart, and that’s what they use for aging their ornaments.

@@angelicaconrad There is a Pentart in Germany; but I'll need to go through an ordering process to find out if they ship to Switzerland (we're not EU, so sometimes companies baulk at sending things across a border I could drive over in 30 minutes....). I have inka gold products; does that have a similar effect?

Absolutely beautiful! I love the detail with the paint, then the waxes. Can you tell me WHERE I can buy the Debi's Design Diaries paint and waxes that you used.? I looked at 3 different shops. I'd like to go to one if possible. I live in the southwestern US. I LOVE your technique. I will look at It Irene's site but in the meantime I SUBSCRIBED to yours!!! Please make more. These are gorgeous. I will be making them! Thank you ~ 🌹

Here’s a link to find a local DIY distributor: diypaint.co/pages/store-locator I luckily have one in a local antique mall, which is where I buy my products. If you don’t have a local distributor, here’s a nice shop to go look at: ellenjgoods.com/collections/dd/products/bohemian-blue Ellen’s store has Super fast shipping, and she has a RU-vid channel.

Thank you Angelica. I was able to buy everything and still happily making my ornaments. However its Dec 14th and I have to stop so I can decorate the house. 😅 I will continue after the New Year as this is fun and very relaxing. TY for EVERYTHING! Happy Holidays to you and yours in 2023 and for the New Year of 2024! 🎄🎄🎄

Will using cooking spray as a release agent on silicone molds affect or hurt the molds at all? I think I’ll try using the spray as well. Do you wash your molds after using the spray? I’m just wondering how the oil spray reacts with silicone. I’m certainly not a chem major & therefore I ask. ☺️☺️

Oh my goodness!🙈 I never even thought of cleaning them. And I’ve used cooking spray in the Prima mould for three years now. There seems to be no damage. Hope that helps!

Bravo! They turned out fabulous. I have to say, it was like listening to myself doing these 😂 the oh this is great to the oh this isn't, repaint...haha really comes down to exploring the materials, tools and techniques for sure. Love to see a video with the same products I use. Love my IOD molds and I use the same air dry clay. Love that stuff. Wasnt expecting the weird fluffy texture the first time I used it, but once I did. Totally hooked. Surprisingly maintains shape and detail while working with it considering how light it is. Thank you for sharing your process too btw. Toothbrush heads are so handy for so many things and definitely try that. For getting into the cracks and tight spots, I find using a fan brush works great. Im leaning to the spray action route myself and have yet to give it a go. Be grateful for any recommendations on what NOT to use for paint. Haha Thank you again for sharing. Look forward to seeing your work. Subscribed! Merry Christmas to you. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I don’t think so. It needs to dry on the ball so it curves.
