GOOD PEOPLE!! Before blasting me for letting the lad sand without a face mask, please note at 3:03 and beyond that there is a box fan to his left blowing at full blast actively carrying the dust away from him. It's true it would be more protection for him to have on a mask and I've since invested in some for him.
didn't hurt me as a kid anyway its good to see them helping not playing xbox all the time. great video just would of liked more pictures of the table at the end
For me, the ideas in ru-vid.comUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
I appreciated so many aspects of this video! Your genuine good nature came through, the music was perfect, and it was very explanatory without being too long or dull. Well done!
Great work! Really the table top design. Looks Native American! Love that your boy helped you as well. Love the hollow legs made of ripped cuts. Got that boy a dust mask!!
between your awesome shop apprentice, and that very sweet "blessing" to the young lady at the end, I think I can safely designate you as A Good Man (tm). Thanks for building this, and your generosity.
Thank you so much for being there for your little guy to teach him how to be a crafty self-reliable man.. He will always remember how great you have always been to him. Parents are literal Gods to their children.. unfortunately, my dad taught me nothing except escaping.
When that boy (i assume your son?) started using that sander my heart warmed. You're a good man. I can tell he is going to learn a great deal from you and that you love him. :)
Loved it! I'm glad that you have your little guy down there working with you. By the look on his face he was loving it! Those times will be lasting memories for him!
Love the video. I would warn that the design doesn't allow for wood expansion and contraction due to seasonal moisture changes = eventual splits and cracks but that just adds to the distressed look ; ) Putting a finish would help it be less susceptible to moisture. Over all thanks for an entertaining video!
Great stuff! Reminds me exactly of my current setup and place in woodworking. I too had picked up half a garage worth of pallets for the “free” wood, and quickly learned how much time that took. So I gave them all away and started using cedar deck boards as well. Best change ever. Customers like it, it’s affordable for me and them. Keep up the good work.
This woodworking book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* contains a great deal of details about woodwork. There are some designs in the book but it is primarily explaining the procedure of how to do various things and what tools to use to accomplish them. In general, this book fulfilled my basic desire to learn about wood working.?
It’s not an anvil, it’s a ‘gravity clamp!’ 😉 The table turned out great and it was so sweet of you to make it for your friend. And YES that spider was epic!!!
Awesome family time and build. I am pretty sure you have a great time with the little ones participating and soaking up the knowledge. Keep doing what you're doing! And thanks for sharing 👍
Dude...subscribed! Love the fact that you have your son in on the project with you. This is how I got into the trades...by being my grandfather’s miniature shadow on job sites before I was a teen. Kudos and have a safe & fantastic holiday season!
This is absolutely gorgeous. I never realized how simple it was to make that Southwestern Native pattern. Going to give it a try and see if I can follow this in order to make an outdoor console table for my plants. You have given me hope lol
What I like about your video is you didn't have to use expensive tools. Missed the face mask others mentioned. When I was a kid, the only safety gear I had helping my dad were safety squints. Nice to see your son away from the electronics and helping you. Good for both of you.
Great video...love the appearance of Buster....But take it from someone that only here clicking sounds in my left ear due to my dad using power tools around me when i was 8 years old... give him some hearing protection.
Those few introductory words reflect my current feelings. After some searching I found a few palettes but the material is not what it used to be and I'm fighting with myself whether to invest the time and effort or just buy new material.
Looks nice! As a side note: trimming the ends of the tabletop could have been accomplished with a circular saw or a router. You can clamp a straight piece of wood (or whatever) to the tabletop, to use as a guide. You probably know that, but some viewers may not.
Good point, I was kind of scope locked on doing it with a hand saw so this was the best solution I could come up with at the moment but your suggestion is just as good (if not better)
Pro tip- while using wood glue apply salt on the glue before placing it into its place. The salt will grit both pieces of wood so when clamping it will not slide or move while the glue dries.
Mark Lewis maybe it’ll work but I have never seen it tested. However, it is a well known technique to use salt (I believe sugar worked as well). I have been using salt for years to help with sliding. A few of the well known RU-vidrs have used it, including Glenn from DIY Creators and Steve Ramsey from Wood Working for Mere Mortals. I encourage you to try it. It’ll definitely help.
I love the way u made this video!! The spider! Your kid and the the ways you teach us all to cut wood with the help of other wood. The music was as perfect as your job.
That's a cute kid you got there, bud! Lol His face at the very end, when he agrees with his daddy, was my favorite part. Lol. Nice job on the table too, fellas!!!!
Good suggestion! I have my benchtop coated in a mix of beeswax and BLO which works really well too. I considered talking about that in the video but it was getting kind of long already so I cut it out.
I think it's awesome you letting the boy help. me and my son has been working together on wood projects since he was five. Now he is 14 and building things on his own. And on his way to being a engineer
True, I built a outdoor play house for my daughters out of cedar planks that one of my friends had laying around I didn’t milk any of it and did my absolute best to nail the planks as tight as possible and now it’s been about yr and there’s gaps in between planks that are up to 1 inch apart.
Thanks for sharing this video. Love the table build. Really enjoyed how you pointed out that HUGE spider! (Music for the background of that was EPIC!) Great build and entertainment too. :)
This is a superb wood working book I`ve ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . Both novice and some skilled woodworker can gain a lot of general info using this reading material. I`ve been very amazed how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and salvage spots.?
chuy-leon ... yeah a lot of people watch the video... I’m assuming some are like myself with a decade or more in woodworking so yeah... ideas are thrown around...
At one point -- a giant spider runs out from the work piece. 1 minute later -- at the miter saw, see several Fogger boxes. Coincidence? I think not. Good looking table.
Great job, it was awesome seeing your helper. As always I like the fact that you provide an alternative way to accomplish the cut ends. I was just telling myself yesterday I hadn't seen anything from you lately, darn I thought I had hit the notification bell. Well I have now. Miss you brother. I'm working on edit on my latest project hope to have it out tonight. What a blessing for your friend. Talk to you soon.
I believe is was the Distilled White Vinegar he soaked the nails in at very beginning, the combination acts to age the wood giving the older barn wood look. You can see the side he brushed became grayish while the untreated side and pieces stay fresher/newer looking.
Thanks for making the video, table looks good and is well built. The board you've clamped to guide the saw is a great idea! I also like that you've delegated the sanding, but you might want to consider getting a respirator for both of you.
I agree RE the respirator, as it was I had a box fan set up just to the left which was evacuating most of the sawdust but you're absolutely right, respirators should be in use.
If you are one of those people who enjoys building woodworking crafts/projects and some basic carpentry skills this website will interest you in the same way that it did me. >> *TopFineWoodworking. Com*
He treated the wood around the pattern with a vinegar/stainless steel stain. The cedar reacts with the stain; aging it and making it turn a cool blue or grey color. He did not treat the pattern with the same stuff so it did not get that aging effect.
lol well the truth of the matter is that the aging was done by painting it with the vinegar after soaking nails in it for a few hours. Although the 5 YO with the sander definitely contributed to the rustic texture!
@@evangelionhd9355 he told you in the beginning that he had a fan blowing the Dust Away from the kid. And the report says repeated occupational use.Jeesh
OMG. Where to start. GREAT ATTITUDE; you are the genuine guy! GREAT SLAVE LABOR; nobody loves to sand more than a kid (and none of us do!); GREAT design; yeah no lap joints, half-laps, Japanese, but it works and it looks rustic. I'm going to build this for my gf who has a similar small place. THANK YOU and for the entertaining video!!!
Nevermind all the dust mask comments. I was imlressed to see that he wasnt wearing one. Many parents are allowing their sons to play video games all day while youre teaching yours a trade. Next theyll ask you where his gloves are.
This t.co/oLg9l5gL3F is a fantastic website about wood working. I took various classes as well as finished a one year diploma in carpentry at a local tech college; this is much better than any book I worked out of during those lessons. It explains everything regarding woodworking as well as complements it with helpful photos.?
Hey Phillip, thanks for being concerned about my kid, seriously. Clearly a dust mask would be best, although it's not real obvious, I had a box fan running at max warp just to the left of the little dude actively moving the dust out of the area which is part of why it looks so dusty in the video.
Hey Zack, good job getting your kid involved. I was wondering if Philip might know where they keep the kid size dust masks in the hardware store. The fan was much more effective than a poorly fitting dust mask. People like Philip don't have kids but like to impart their vast knowledge of child rearing upon us, then they take their dog for a walk in the park and leave their crap there for everyone to walk through instead of disposing of it like they're supposed to. Philip, raise your dog. Leave parenting to the parents.
effewe gugal yet you mentioned me in a comment and also replied to mine. Weird. Now turn of your computer, you’ve had enough screen time for the day; simple brains need rest.
A tip for your hinges. An oscillating multitiool makes it faster and easier. I got one at Harbor Freight for a great price and I use it all the time. I love it. There are a lot of blade options and it's great for a lot of different types of projects. It will save time and headache
