this dude siad " 1000W " lol AB class amps that can reach this legit is sundown audio , D4S audio , focal ( but focal cost too damn much for the W to $ ) and Deaf Bonce. at no point what you made here is even getting 300W clamped from any cross over you can make.
Yer, More like if you actually gave them 150w per side they would fry. "yer my setup is like 1000w man" ok so why has your amp only got a 5amp fuse then? paper numbers.
Thanks Donny for all these audio projects with plans, I want to start this as a hobby and your videos and plans are so helpful and inspiring to get started, great job!!! 🥰
@@DonnyTerek Thanks buddy, I just ordered my drivers and everything, I'm going to practice a bit of woodwork and learn some audio design stuff while I'm waiting for things to arrive, have a blessed day!!! 🥰
DIY, compact and PA parts. Perfect. For my desktop. Something about the way PA plays for movie/games that cannot be beat. Dynamically they are king as far as I am concerned.
@@tommywilliamsjr.697 I had to dump the 15 inch woofers due to space and stuff (also 1 broke in a move), but there never was a lack of clarity or reserve. I had them new when BF2 came out, and they stuck with me until not too long ago. Have smaller stereo ones now with ribbons. Meh. Found this video perusing the web on the prowl for a design with compression drivers. But size and power and weight, I pulled out the 1U amp and wanted to stay with that, so now have to decide surround with phantom centre or simple LCR. These do look tempting... But thinking I will start with 2× the Obelix-S from K+T 2013/06, modified the design slightly. Should be a good fit on a smaller desk.
Wonder if 10" is a great middleground for creating high undistorted SPL while not having a big directivity mismatch with the compression driver, while the compression driver is also crossed high enough to play undistorted. Specially since I'll cross into a subwoofer anyway.
greetings from Romania! very nice and well done. can you please give me the measurements for the boxes? I can't find it. I have a pair of 10-inch Celestion TN 1020 and I don't know how to calculate the boxes for them. Greetings
Maravillas!!! 👍👍🇨🇱
What do these sound like compared to a "hi fi" speaker? I want to try a 10-12" system on my (real nice) home stereo but all the "hi fi" options are 6" or at best 8"
It sounds very dynamic (as all high SPL equipment). With a good horizontal and partially vertical dispersion it will be a great loudspeaker. With feeding it with 0.1W its distortions will be less than ScanSpeak or Purifi offer for 10W at a same SPL level
I want to build these speakers, but how is the quality and loudness of the speakers. Because the ports seem very short. So whats the experience using the speakers. Cause €600 is a lot of money for me
It is actually hard for me to help you decide since these were the first PA speakers that I built. The price tag to build a pair of these is quite high compared to what you can get off the shelf but I do like the sound quality. I paired these with the Behringer A800 and I do like the crisp highs and the wide soundstage. Was expecting a bit more bass from these but they are tuned to 80Hz with the port length as in the design. I think you could make yourself a relatively inexpensive pair of these if you can source cheaper crossover components (I paid over $100 for mine) and build the enclosures yourself.
@@prodj.mixapeofficial6431 its a estimate cost but it can be near 500 bucks, yeah commercial ones are near this price too but this project is to show how best is this setup but you can buy a commercial one instead or use the same project but using the hardware with less cost i don't know...
Excellent video and realization However do you hear any difference with the speakers sitting on a more stable stands ? the sound could be more focused i guess The single pole can wave Even a little movement is very bad with speakers usually Kind regards, gino
@@DonnyTerek hi i think the problem is more in the tweeter Even tiny movement of the box varies the point of source of sound of the tweeter It's like shooting having a little parkinsonism In the end your speaker are really excellent and very good looking as well In my little room i don't need all this power but I will think about it thanks again and kind regards gino
A very nice well put together project. However I can't see how you can say 1000 watt handling power , When the horn has a max power of 20 watts and the woofer has a max of 300 watts. Please explain.
peak power is usually a bogus marketing number that is close to where the speaker destroys itself or the coils burn up. maybe its a teoretical max. i dont see this peak number anywhere on the product websites. i assume its 1000w peak both speakers combined. in this video on the test part they used a 100w amp so nowhere near the 100w target
I have built my cabs to house a 15in woofer an 8in midbass and a super tweeter all of the individual speakers are rated to handle over 600 watts but my crossover is rated at 300 watts so if I give more power than the crossover can handle they turn into a large paper weight
yeah i dont know enough about crossovers to know how much this one can handle. i saw some wattages and stuff but i dont know how much each individual component would be hit with the load i guess. then again this setup was hitting what 50w per channel probably wont blow up. if they would hook up the amp i'm using wich is the Behringer KM1700 800w at 4 ohm per channel there might be some smoke or broken parts i guess. mine are 1700w mono for use with subwoofers that i havent gotten to yet.
I'm running a Yamaha m-80 amp that will put out just over 300 watts per speaker per channel, after there was work done on it and with my amp set up to just below clipping I can't turn up the pre-amp to 4 before it is so loud stuff starts to fall off the walls
Great work on those but with the specs on those drivers and the crossover Id limit the amplifier to 120-140w RMS each cabinet unless you like replacing drivers.
A 200wpc amp is ideal. LF driver is 150wRMS and the HF is 20wRMS, that gives you 180w of total RMS handling, in theory. It does depend on how loud you intend on driving them, but the weaker the amplifier, the less dynamic range you'll have and the higher the chance you will clip the output stage, which is worse than having a slight overload on power. If you choose to add positive EQ to these speakers, you will run out of headroom with a 50w amplifier very quickly, especially with lower frequencies. Just because it would be a 200w amplifier, doesn't mean it will be going full send as that isn't how audio works.
